2024 Order

Hi I am looking to order a 24 X5 soon. First Bimmer! Couple questions for you guys.

1. The quote my local dealer gave me had about $4,400 in incentives off MSRP. The next local dealer wouldn't match it. Think there is still more room to work? Better deals available?

2. They are charging $700 for Permaplate? Sounds like a dealer BS profit grab. They didn't even really describe what it was.

Thanks

1. Assuming you mean dealer discount rather than incentives, that is pretty decent. There have definitely been better deals but also many that have been much worse. If no other dealer matches it then I think that would tell you that it is a good one.

2. Skip it but then again some make the add-ons mandatory.

3. From a financial point of view an Extended Service Contract (BMW’s name for it) is rarely worth it in my opinion but some people like to get it for the peace of mind that they are covered. You can buy one at any time prior to the new vehicle warranty expiring and it can be purchased from any dealer. We have a number of them that consistently offer much lower pricing than most dealers. Can get you the contact info should you need it.

On this subject, are extended warranties always 3rd party and are they always tied to the dealer you purchase it from?

Yes/No on an extended BMW/factory warranty?

I can't address the third party extended warranties as they vary a lot. As far as the Extended Service contract goes, that is backed by BMWFS and valid at all dealerships. If I was ever to change my position on them and go for one, it would only be BMW's Platinum Extended Service contract.

Here are the folks that had the lowest pricing when I looked around the other year: Daniel Kim at dkim@saffordauto.com, Jeff Steel at jeff.steel@passportauto.com and Christine from GOLFFRR 's place at cnewman@stevethomasbmw.com

That sounds like a very good discount.

I do not like extended warranties, most of it is profit.

Extended warranties are the same as any other “option” - the purchaser pays the premium for the right to something. It may expire worthless or worth less than the premium paid, which in most cases here it does otherwise it wouldn’t be profitable for the warranty company. But, in the few cases where the option is exercised it can be worth a ton to the buyer of the warranty. All depends - do you want to layout that premium to have ultimate downside protection…. Have to do your down risk / reward analysis there.. everyone’s driving habits, finances (in the event a huge expense comes up) and risk appetites are different… it works for some and not others.

I wouldnt deal with any dealership that has BS "mandatory" charges. Permaplate is some crappy "paint protection" that likely costs the dealership $43 to do. Hard pass.

What are the incentives that you got off MSRP? I am negotiating discount off MSRP, but manufacturer incentives should be on top (these are not dependent on the dealer).

I am finalizing the deal, but just for a reference I hope to get ca. 3.5% off MSRP a custom build 50e with an individual paint.

He didn't get any incentives, he clarified in a later post it was a dealer discount. Current common incentives is loyalty ($750), corporate ($750) and Military ($500, $2k).

Thanks, TurtleBoy.

OP, which model are you getting? I contacted MANY dealers. 98% didn't want to give any discount on 50e. They stated they would be happy to work on discounts on the gas versions.

It’s the 4.0 x drive. My build is about 76.5 nothing crazy but I’m cheap and always try to make a deal. They took $4400 off but adding $700 for permaplate bs.

I’m trying to get another $1k out of them and maybe rubber mats.

For the model name you have to do something that you in your teens never wanted your girlfriend to do - skip the period. It is 40i.

Does is matter when you buy an extended warranty? I currently have a CPO and want to add a year or two onto it. Question is, do I do it now or wait 18 months when the CPO period is up?

best to shoot her a quick buzz with your vin and miles to see what qualifies for your specific situation however most of the time you have to get it dialed in before factory warranty is up and if its CPO then you would not be able to get any additional plans from bMW HOWEVER, I am not a expert at all on warranties but Christine is and she is very prompt and no pressure so its best to get exact answer from her on your situation
