BMW should be able to fix this (bimmer code can) by including it in an OTA. I've been using a battery powered book light but it's a pia. Hope BMW can fix as besides being pia it's also quite dangerous to use in dark or dark and rainy situations and also impacts day time use by not allowing maps and car info displays to be bright enough for confident use.

They don’t consider it a problem. While there have been a few reports of the issue without tinting it seems like tinting is the cause so they aren’t concerned since it is a modification to the stock vehicle.

Drove my X5 yesterday mid morning here in Dallas and it was cloudy and dark out with the serious winter weather we’re getting.

Display seemed as dark as ever. Really, REALLY disappointed.

By the way, when my X5 was in the shop last weekend I had a ‘22 7 Series and the displays seemed just as dark as the X5! Maybe even worse!

What a ridiculous problem that should never be! I really don’t get it.

If you've got your windows tinted, if you go around a curve or corner, the angle of the sun will change, and the light sensor adjusts...hassle is, with the windows tinted (and the windshield not, or as much), it makes it much harder for your eyes to compensate.

Hi-

Was pointed to this thread because of my endless search for a cure to the dimming issue with "Florida" tinted windows. So far, this piece of code seems most promising indeed and very grateful to the OP for sharing!

Before buying an OBD and attempting to do this myself, I DO have to ask if by changing these and any other code parameters, does it VOID my warranty? Thought I read somewhere a gent posting a warning of same but never saw a response.

Anyone know if this is true or false for sure?

Will continue to follow this marvelous thread with crossed fingers and genuine hope and excitement!

Many thanks, Bob

Welcome to the forum. It will not void your warranty however if your vehicle develops an issue and they can show it was caused by the coding then the fix won't be covered. The chance of that happening in this case is close to zero.

Thanks Turtle Boy for the welcome and your thoughts on warranty. It's kinda what I thought seeing as though the code is merely affecting display parameters. If we were tweaking fuel mixtures and the like, well. '-)

It's a lot of fun coming back to BMWs again after a long hiatus. Thinking back I've had 3 at previous times and outside of some dreaded electrical gremlins, they were always a really pleasurable and fun to drive vehicle.

I'll most likely try the code fix and follow all the advice proffered on this marvelous thread!

Thanks again, Bob

Just going straight on I75 the dash will dim them brighten then dim…all within minutes. Sucks.

Was wondering what the final consensus is to the OP's brilliant tweaks to the code?

I see a mention of 5f maybe being the sweet spot?

Another or same poster mentioning a little TOO bright at twilight etc.

Another saying so much better than the original darkness/dimness but a tad under the prior peak brightness during sunny conditions.

Would love to hear any further thoughts, recommendations etc. for setting tweaks in relation to OP's original idea? Or, should I simply do OP's original?

From all of my readings across many forums, THIS code adjustment seems to be the best by far. Before I buy the gear and software needed, would love to hear any further results after implementing and tweaking thereof, if any or all would be so kind.

Many many thanks, Bob

For everyone who is one the fence... this is 100% the fix, it has been quite a while now that the Bimmercode solution has been posted here and a bunch of us have been running it with no issues. For about a $50 easy DIY fix (Bimmercode app + adapter) it's really a no brainer and should make this a non-issue on your vehicle

Thanks!
I wasn't aware of the age of the thread, sorry.

I did notice some tweaking posts here & there however to the OP's code
and was wondering if any of said "tweakers" settled on a slight revision or flipped back to OP's.

I'll be buying what I need!

Looking forward to it!

I tinkered a bit, but ended up back on the original settings that were suggested

cant wait to go home and try this on my f90 m5 2020 with idrive 7. Thats rubbish nonsense my f90 has no tints and during the daytime i can barely see the screen at all to use my cameras and having a 10.25 inch display doesnt help either.. I had coded the dim_variant to old that allows the display brightness to be changed at all times but it really made no difference i cant wait to try those 3 code changes from 2 pages ago that imdiekeb included he is my hero if this works. God damn gotta leave bimmercode and bmw for the ability to carry out changes like these but mostly our fellow bmw drivers for experimenting this and comming out with a fix. I noticed this display dimness problem the day i first receieved my first idrive7 loaner and hated that it couldnt be adjusted like my 2015 640i..
