Ordered a 50e!

Hello All,

I'm new to this site and also new to ordering a car. I always just buy what they have in stock.

I've been combing through some posts and it seems some people get their cars within a few weeks and some people are waiting months. Why is there such a big difference in wait time?

I ordered my car a couple weeks ago and the dealer thinks it will be late July or early Aug before I get it. Is that a pretty regular time line? Are there different wait times for the regular engines compared to the hydrids?

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your order. The wait time mainly depends on where you are located, if the dealer has an allocation and if you order an Individual paint, model/trim doesn't really play into it for the most part. For example, if your dealer doesn't have a location they can take your order but it may a month or more before they can submit the order to BMW if they don't have an allocation. As far as location goes, it can take tow to four weeks to ship to the West coast since it goes by rail. Europe also has a different ordering system and of course shipping is longer so vehicles take months to arrive there.

Yes, it all depends on timing but generally about 8 - 12 weeks. They batch the Individual paints. I think right now all are schedule in the Week 28 - 31 timeframe.

It also seems some countries get preferential treatment in terms of allocations as well. I've seen some people on this forum wait 2-4 weeks between order and production for US orders while in Germany/Switzerland there's very very few that were produced in April (even though ordered in February) and most of the early orders are being produced somewhere around Mid-May to late June.

Mine was supposed to be Week 24. With a now confirmed delivery in Week 31 it could mean though that it was delayed to Week 26 or 27. (We don't get any info on buildweek in Europe and my dealer told me they can't even see it themselves. (Which seems odd to me.))

Thank for the info TurtleBoy. I assume my dealer has no more allocations for May so it won't get produced till June/July. I'm in Canada and it seems we don't get the allocations like in the US.

Luckily I ordered a Mineral white....I assume that's a common colour so they won't have to batch my order.

Does anyone if ordering the hybrid adds to the production time?

No it does not but all depends on the allocation.

I ordered mine 2 weeks ago. 50e, in Southern Ontario. I was told same timeline as you, July-August.

Strange, I got a screenshot from my dealer from their BMW system and it shows clearly quota month, production week and delivery week and model 41EU.

I'm in Southern Ontario as well. Good to know that it's the same time line. I'm not sure if your sales told you the same but he said it's possible there could be a delay cuz they have been only getting a couple allocations a month.

Honestly I'm just fed-up with the lack of info my dealer is providing and can't bother myself trying to force him to tell me. I've also realized that it doesn't change anything anyways even if I'd know except for me maybe cancelling the car and looking for something else but I probably couldn't bring myself to do that as well so I'll just have to wait it out ...

I ordered special pain but still don’t have a date other than the request was submitted to BMW. Do you have an idea of when we would I know the build date?

A specific build date doesn't come until about two weeks before the production date. A build week though should be available right away. Do you mean you got a production number but no other info? If so then call Genius and see if they can give you the production week. If no production number then that means your dealer doesn't have an allocation.
