Is the word out?

I have had so many electronic issues the latest being my phone wont connect or connects but drops with in minutes. i have iphone XS Max running iso 12.3.1 the biggest problem with that is I live in a State where it is against the law to use your phone when driving. The fines can be up to 1k. So I decided to sell or trade the car for another brand. The car was over 80k I have 1,800 mile on it and very frustrated. I was offered 55k at Car Max and 53K on a trade in on a Tesla. That is about 10k less that Kelley Blue Book. What the hell is going on? Is the word out about all the problems with the car?

If you're pissed at the car that much, then getting rid of it one way or another is the only real solution. But while I am the noisiest here about the bugs, perhaps there are cheaper/more practical solutions to try first. Like replace the phone with a different model, that should be about 1% of the cost of a new car. Or hang in there just a bit longer for IOS 13 in Sept as there seems to be consistent indications of improved interoperation. Or maybe another similar and much cheaper thing? Just saying ...

And just to ask, are your issues really "electronic" or actually software? Cause software can be fixed, but electrical gremlins are probably not worth the trouble to keep hope alive.

^ This. I'm not hearing an issue other than your iPhone is losing Bluetooth connectivity, and that has been addressed for most by pushing for a firmware update to your vehicle.

While I understand and empathize with your emotional sentiment, losing $25K to $27K on a brand new car makes zero financial sense to me.

It sucks but a hands free bluetooth speaker which attaches to your sun visor is pretty cheap on eBay and Amazon. Much cheaper than the $25k loss on selling the vehicle and should work until BMW gets it act together software-wise.

PS get a good one, at this rate you may need it for another 12 months....

I was quite worried about iPhone connectivity and CarPlay before my X5 order, and I even made a poll to gauge how widespread the problem was; as I cannot live without CarPlay.

But so far, it has not been a problem at all! Initial connection in each morning always works, and the connection seldom disconnects. A couple of areas where it does struggle a bit is reconnection after stopping/away from car for a short period of time; and sometimes when there are two connected phones in the car at the same time. And when this happens, just a simple toggle of the WiFi off and on (you can toggle phone's WiFi, or iDrive's WiFi) would make it connect again.

So I am a bit surprised you would consider selling a car at a big loss for this problem, which seems a bit extreme to me. Have you updated the iDrive software to its latest version at your dealership?

I wouldn't say that's a problem. I'd say that's bloody great, especially as the heavy fines have deterred you from using your phone whilst driving.

I have an Iphone XR and while the Bluetooth connect worked flawlessly for about 4 months, I started to get 15-20 annoying drops per day randomly. While my X5 was in for other service (by the way, don't spill even a little liquid on your center console because you may get the pleasure of purchasing a new shifter assembly for 1,700 dollars like me), they updated the idrive software (I had a need service light also come on just for that update) and it works fine again now.

I have had zero issues with my iPhone X. But I also do not make many calls while driving. My guess is if you get the latest BMW iDrive update and iOS 13 when it releases in two months, all should be much improved.

As to trading your X5 in. Best deals I have found are getting bids from BMW dealers and taking those to the place you are buying your new car. BMW dealers tend to bid higher on trades and will compete against each other.

A first year loss of 25% off MSRP isn't unusual, especially when BMW is offering new car discounts.

iPhone 10 XS Max (as of recent running iOS 12.4 Beta), and like you I had significant Bluetooth connectivity issues. My vehicle was updated to 03/2019.48 a couple of weeks ago, and ALL of my Bluetooth issues have gone away.

I feel your pain, but not 25-30k in pain. I would put up with plugging in a usb cable to my phone for a few months until a software update fixes the issue.

You are experiencing the drive off the lot depreciation. Nothing can be done about that.

You’re just lucky. My CarPlay is unuseably glitchy. I’ve stopped using it and rely on the simple bmw idrive Bluetooth connection.

I guess I was not real clear about the problems I have encountered. Connectivity of the phone is only one of many "software/hardware " problems that I have had with this car. It has been in the shop for a total of 5 weeks since I bought it in Feb. I am on 03/2019.48 software release. I am just concerned that BMW will not be able or not willing to address all of the problem the collective on this forum are experiencing.
I had software problems on a 2002 7 series they could never fix. They finally bought the car back. I live 1 1/2 hour from the nearest dealership and it is very inconvenient to keep taking it back. Really like the car and don't want to get rid of it this is my 9th BMW

You're a patient fellow. Do you know your rights with respect to Georgia's "Lemon Law"?
