Air Conditioning - not much better than the F15
Seems like we needed and air conditioning thread. The F15 thread is legendary.
It was finally hit the upper 80s here in Minnesota and my 40i is struggling. Not sure what to make of it. The AC is louder than the F15 was, almost seems like it needs more vents. When I drive in these temps the AC is on all the time if I set the cabin to 70. Part of that is due to the heat from the sunroof. I closed the cover on the sunroof and the roof cover was still warm, so the top of the cabin stays warmer. It seems like the coolant is cold, but not as cold as other cars. Our 2019 X3 is much better in these temps. Curious what others have experienced. Yes, I have the rear climate off and the slider to blue for the ventilation. I run in auto mode but try to keep the fan adjustment on the 2nd lowest notch due to the noise. |

Properly adjusted the G05 X5 will freeze you out in under 5 minutes on a 90 degree day. It does it to me once the Temp/ventilation is adjusted to cold. It was so cold yesterday I had to move it almost back to the factory preset center position. It was 87 degrees and sun yesterday.
Settings Via iDrive: 1. "CAR" 2. "Settings" 3. "Climate control" 4. "Heating/ventilation" 5. "Driver" or "Front passenger" 6. "Temperature adjustment" 7. Set the desired temperature: ▷ Toward blue: colder. ▷ Toward red: warmer. |

My Porsche C4S is about as good as my wife’s A4 but it’s tiny inside so it should be good. |

Switch out of auto mode and manually select the vents towards you and foot and not towards windshield and then you get more fan speed choices. In my experience with BMWs includng F15 and my Audi is that Auto modes are lame and do not push enough heat or cooling when it trys to use all the vents hence why it feels weak. Once you focused the vents to your preference you just turn it off by pressing and holding the lower fan speed and to turn it on you just press the lower or upper fan speed and it reverts your your previous vent settings. This made the a/c in our 2015 X5 feel amazing and cold even at 68-70 degrees temp vs being on the auto mode. |

My A/C is crazy good in the G05.
Make sure A/C is selected in the menu and adjust the in menu temp bias. You will be frozen in no time flat.

Yup. My X5 AC is like an ice bomb. I love it. Those settings have consumed other people on here, so be sure to check them.

I was able to do a test drive today at my local BMW dealer. Today was about 75-80F in New York City, and I was doing the test drive at around 12:30 pm when the temperature was highest. I turned on the AC to max, and I didn't feel that the AC was weak. It was fine for me.

I took thermal measurements of the air temp in my car, mid 40's after 25 min is plenty cold coming out of the vents. I'm sure it gets colder than that during a longer drive

I was not fully alert when I left home this morning at 6 am, but the car seemed cooler than normal. FL was sent to 74 and FR maybe to 73.
I heard the fan from the rear so I looked and they were both set to 65 with the high almost as high as it can go. I turned down the fan and changed the rear temps to maybe 68. Immediately the car felt much warmer and I kept playing with the front temps but did not seem to return to what I had at first. So how much of a difference does the rear system make when there are no passengers?

they took out the manually adjusted red/blue knob
the temp is now adjusted with a up/down button instead of a circular knob both steps in the wrong direction IMO
