Back power gate and Dogs

On my 2020 X5 I've noticed the back tailgate/powergate has a very hard plastic surface which is quite slippery for dogs jumping up from the ground. Any ideas to improve this for our furry friends?

I use a trunk cargo dog coverThat extends and falls below that extends and falls below that bottom flap of the trunk so when he jumps off of the trunk I hold thatIn place and he doesn't end up scratching it or slipping on it.

It was designed to sit on I believe, especially good for kids after some time at the beach.

Maybe try finding a cut of carpet, and use some Velcro strips to stick to the back of the tailgate. This way you can remove the carpet to clean or when you're not expecting to carry your dog(s).

I find my dog does a great job of pressing the release button for the lower tailgate when I open the upper hatch. As soon as I open the upper hatch, she puts her front legs up on the lower tailgate and almost hits the open button every time - and the lower tailgate comes down.

...now to get the wife to learn to use the same button....

wish my dog would ride in the back. always sat in rear seat since a pup and now that's where he wants to be. 140 lb Greater Swiss Mountain Dog that drools, sheds and everything else lol. just installed every piece of protective gear that Weather tech makes. have had the car less than 2 weeks and he hasn't been in yet. maiden voyage tomorrow.

I bought black felt 10x12 squares with adhesive back and covered the entire plastic of the lower gate. Looks almost factor and also addresses any plastic creaking.

Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Adhesive-Jewe...s%2C216&sr=8-5

I use a twin mattress topper and queen comforter for my dogs with all the seats down. I usually just pull the excess forward. I also lower the car every time, so they don’t scratch it up. I also don’t put any type of cleaner or protectant on that plastic. I use a little dish soap with hot water to clean. It can get slick otherwise. You could probably find a yoga or gym mat and cut it to size and throw it in top. You could store it easily this way too.

I use one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Brilliant, used it in the X3 before, and it gets a bit of a clean every few months, but it's super solid and there's zero visible marks on the back seats.

I agree the tailgate plastic is very slippery, basiclaly you can't put /anything/ on there or it'll just slip away. The problem is, it /needs/ to be slippery as it's two part and one of the part slides 'over' the other...
