Brand new X6. 5 days in. I see 1 good sized crack and several dings in windshield.
I've not taken any hits from debris or pebbles.
And it's not just the one main crack.
Is this defect in glass? Anyone else encountered it?

Wow that was fast. Is it possible it could’ve been vandalism?

That thought crossed my mind but it's only been parked in my driveway, in public garage, and in my garage. I didn't notice it driving home last night and noticed it first thing this morning before driving.

Last June I had a rock hit mine a day before we were leaving on vacation but luckily was able to get it filled that day. Last November another rock hit caused a big crack. I got the windshield replaced and the next day it snowed and almost exactly 25 hours after leaving the windshield place an ice/rock ball came off the car in front of me, bounced, hit the windshield and left a ding. Things happen.

But I'm noticing other small dings. All result of impact? Hard to see from pictures.

still here waiting for people to say the design of the car caused it

good chance a rock hit it, but crack doesnt shown up till days later when temperature changes.

of course high possibility vandalism as mentioned over glass defect, imo

Happened to me as well after having the car only 1 month. Have a crack on the windscreen almost an inch long. Got a cost from my local garage of £1650 to replace. Apparently as part of replacing the windscreen they have to recalabrate the forward facing cameras at the the top of the windscreen.

Decided to get it glued and hope that it doesn’t get any bigger

I'll start it !!!!

Windshield design is terrible demand a new car!

Kidding of coarse but don't feel to bad the day I brought mine home I had a 6inch impact and it held up find just needed a new window. Might have been something you simply didn't notice at the time.

My dealer was offering me a separate windshield protection package for $500. He said the windshield itself costs over $1,000 and replacing it is not easy, the cameras have to be recalibrated for an extra cost. That package would cover One windshield replacement free of cost with camera and software calibration included.

Now thinking about it.....it was not a bad protection package.

Just had mine done at the dealer. They ended up gouging my paint on the A-pillar so now they have to have it repainted. I happened to take a picture of the area before they worked on it or else they wouldn’t have even owned up to it. I would have expected this from Safelite but not a dealer. Luxury indeed.

Last month I had my dealer replace my windshield wipers and when I was driving home I noticed the paint is chipped off the hood near the wiper arm. They must have not followed the procedure for putting the wiper arms in the service position. They ordered some touch-up paint and are going to have their touch-up paint guys do it. I guess accidents happen no matter how expensive the service is, frustrating at times though.

Stone just cracked my windshield yesterday.

Called insurance, they are going to replace with a $100 deductible. I guess special windshield order with HUD, lane change assist, rain/wiper sensor.

Does anyone know if you have acoustic glass if that is a different windshield also?

Or is the acoustic glass just on the side windows?

You would be surprised how, and how many, blemishes (dings, marks, etc.) occur on your windshield. But I would take a ding any day over a crack.

Depending on your state, by law insurance companies either must include windshield coverage or give you the option to decline. (our current insurance was $51/yr and previous was included). When we had to replace our 4 series windshield with HUD, we were quoted $2200+ for oem. With insurance, it was fully covered.
If your dealership is charging you to re-calibration, you need to find a new dealership, ours and a few others known dealerships dont charge anything. the even gave me a loaner while it was being replaced!

Crisis averted. A colleague used the spit and elbow grease method. Good as new.

+1. Had this happen on our last car. Had a very tiny little crack, like pinhead size, for months then one morning came out and it was about a 12" crack. Car was outside in the sun during a day that was unusually warm, then overnight when it returned to normal, colder temps.

So it was just dirty or sap or something?

Shocking that it was just dirt that the windshield wiper fluid didn't clean. I'm going to clean the windshield and give the whole thing a thorough inspection today.
