Is it just my car, or does the sunroof motor make an awfully weak noise as it's opening/closing? Uploaded a video to YouTube. Would appreciate any input. 2020 X5 40i with 500 miles.

Definitely not normal. Take it in, hopefully it's just in need of a quick adjustment!

quick update. took it to the dealer today (having one other minor issue with a button sticking) ... appears its working better now. maybe just needed some exercise. anyways, have an appointment Friday and they'll re align and lubricate everything to be safe.

Insist on it: on my car at least, the roof, and lining, are butter smooth and nearly silent.

Closing the loop here. Sunroof had repeated issues getting stuck. Dealer first replaced the motor (did not fix it) and then replaced the entire cassette assembly. Required the headliner to be removed but they did a fine job.

Late bump but thank you for this thread. My sunroof was having the same issue. I went to the dealer and they said it was fine. I told them to check it again and I read this thread saying it may be the cassette.
Sure enough, they replaced the motor, it didn't work and then had the car for 2 weeks while they waited for the whole thing to be replaced. Works fine now, but unfortunately, they gouged the pillar trim (the soft fabric seems to scratch easily if it gets hit with a tool) and looks like they damaged the seat lumbar leaning on it.
