I was in Greer, SC in September. There were plenty of G05s in the holding lots. I had pics, they have been deleted from my phone since.

Fair enough, I'm sure they were waiting to go out The same is true for the new X7 which started production in December if not sooner

Yes, they have to build out enough inventory to send to all the centers for launch. Currently what is happening for the G07 (X7), SOP was 12/18. The launch begins in March.

We should know something definite by May or early June.

I have a strong feeling it won't ride nearly as nicely but might handle better than the current 50i

Would be nice to know what other options are available? will it follow 5 series?
- Individual colors ext and interior, trim
- Alcantara headliner
- Full leather option on individual?
- Sky lounge roof
- more options a la cart : like M difff
- what about extra cooling package like it has on the 8 series ( more powerful cooling fan and an additional engine oil cooler)

Also since its an M performance car - it has M package standard - is it the end of V8 air suspension and off road package? I thought we can not combine it with M pack.

Umm it certainly was in the M40i vs 30i with m suspension so unless BMW changes that I'll believe it when I see more evidence

To get you even more excited:

850 already has that engine.

Go drive the 850 and decide for yourself. Video of it on the track

Totally two different beast though. Yet no X3M based on the G01. Emphasis on the yet. The X3M will have a vastly different suspension setup than the X3 M40i (aka stiffer). That is a given..

We have a M240i vert and it does not ride any differently than the perious 235i with M sport pkg.

The LCI 750i is also receiving it. It is trickling down throughout the product line.

I'm only talking about the M40i and M Sport 30i. The suspension is different between them and that's BMWs most recent M Performance vehicle so I'm basing my comment on that.

Does it seem the 2019 X5 50i is a bit of an anomaly -- 1-year model? Will they keep it for 2020 when the X5 M50i is released as well as the X5 M or replace it with the X5 M50i?

Other posts seem to think this is the case.

Should I go for it now or wait until 2020? My sense is with all the bugs and higher performance of the X5 M50i waiting may make sense, but the current X5 50i is plenty fast. Thoughts?
I am waiting for the M50i personally, but that is because I don't need a vehicle immediately and would prefer to wait on the updated V8. I have an X3 M40i and it is a lot of fun to drive. The G05 will be replacing my X3, which will become my spouse's commuter. I have been checking the G05 boards to see if there have been any glaring issues, (previously had an F15 X5) and have been happy to see it is mostly just software problems.

The current G05 50i is quicker than the X3 M40i, at least in terms of 1/4 mile and 0-60 times. I imagine the M50i will make that lead a lot bigger.

Interesting 5-series comparison:

- The 540i X-Drive is pricier than the X5 40i X-Drive.
- The M550i X-Drive is ~$5k cheaper than the X5 50i M-Sport.

Logically this could mean that the X5 M50i has a lower starting price than the X5 50i M-Sport?

I have not done any comparisons though between what is included in the M550i versus the 540i but in regards to the 40i and the 50i, the 50i includes more upgrades than just the engine. If the M50i does also, then it would be unlikely that adding an engine upgrade would lower the price.

The 'logic' here is deeply flawed, no further comments

It guess it can be more efficient logistically to have every 50i being M-Sport/performance equipped and financially more profitable that every 50i is sold brings in $5k more from the start than a non M-Sport car and some of this can be passed on to the consumer to not risk lowering overall 50i volume sold. We’ll soon know how it plays out. It’s just an interesting data point, might not mean anything but it could.
