I'll check it out, if they put one there I'd think any cups would block the flow

Yes, I see the vent. It would be curious is this is a factor in this 'heated' debate.

Just tried wireless charging on my (naked) iphone X after the PCD last thursday. On the drive back, the phone got incredibly hot, and carplay shut down. it was very sluggish for a few minutes till the phone cooled off. I've tried wiress charging a few times since then but it still heats up the phone and doesn't really charge it at all.
I still like that area as a good place to store your phone and I can use one of the USB ports to charge it (wireless charging degrades your battery faster anyway) Where in the settings can you go to turn off wireless charging? |

I've noticed a huge difference in the phone's temperature after using the direct streaming Spotify through Connected Music instead of Apple Music in CarPlay. The phone is still connected via CarPlay, but only for Phone and Messages. Not an ideal solution, but I always worry about my phone heating up and doing a number on the battery.
Ghetto Trick: Plug the phone in and start the Cooling function for the cupholder. Place phone in cupholder! |

When I do actually use the wireless charger it does make my iPhone 11 Pro Max burn up, also did with my iPhone X. Besides it being placed in an awkward space if you have anything in the cupholder, this is why I rarely use it anymore.

i used the usb-c port in between the armrests today, and i was surprised and amazed how quickly it charged my iphone X. I know its not supposed to be a fast charging port but I swear it was quicker than the port on my f15. Never will I use the wireless charging port again, all it seems to want to do is hasten the demise of your battery without actually charging it.

I'm my previous car the wireless charger had a blue light confirming the phone is charging. Didn't see it in the x5 until now. We are driving to the alps and my wife is behind the wheel. It's on the left side of the tray completely invisible from the driving position
In my previous car it also gave a signal when charging started. It doesn't do that anymore either. So I can only check if it's charging on the homescreen or CarPlay screen. And yes my phone is also getting hot and not charging a lot. Was much better in the previous car. |

Was reading your post and switched the USB C charging my iPhone from the back of the seat to the middle console and It goes way faster. So I think back = 1.5A |

Can't remember where I found the other info. And can't explain my personal observation ? And the manual also says 3A for the back of the seat. My son is charging his iPad on the second back seat. Maybe that's the reason? Or maybe I should just take the wheel. We are approaching the last 100 km and I want to do the alpine roads myself. 😜 |

I need to get a couple more of those stupid expensive apple usb-c cables and i'll test it myself in the next few days. I'll try to set a timer to see how long it takes to charge something, that's probably the best way to get a definitive answer. My ipad charges slow regardless of what i have it plugged into so i'm sure that's part of it for your son.

I can't confirm accuracy, but this thread made me realize I should figure-out what types of cables I'll want to take with me for my PCD in April, so I searched the forum and found this: https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...&highlight=USB.
So TurtleBoy's post would indicate the backseat ones are 3.0A. |

wireless charging is stupid anyway. even if it works as advertised, the physics of how it works unnecessarily taxes your phone battery and ruins its capacity over time. I'm actually fine with just charging my iphone with one of the fast charging ports either in the center console or the back seats. we have wireless carplay and we all still get notifications and having it inside a cabinet doesn't impede my use of it in any meaningful way so i'd rather be safe than sorry.

I really don't use it due to it's location. It's to cumbersome to try to put the phone in and also to take out. The should have designed that cubby hole a little further forward to where the shifter is at to allow for the charger to be in front and the cup holders to the back. Just my opinion. It doesn't work either, my phone gets super hot and charges really slow. I use an iPhone 11 Pro or whatever it's called.

There can't be THIS many people all having the same problem.... and it be the problem of the people's phones.
I tried my Galaxy S9+... both with and without the case.... and it gets burning hot, stops charging, and never charges fully. I'm actually kinda pissed about this. Has anyone found a solution?

Not directly related to the post. But personally, I don't use wireless charging anywhere (at home, in car, at work). I get it's convenient, but it's radiating energy. How much is been transmit by the induction coil? How much is been received by the receiving coil? The rest is just radiated away. Not my favorite thing for sure.
