Adaptive LED Headlights vs. BMW Headlights?

I thought I saw a thread on this, but I can't find it after several searches.

(By the way how do you search on an exact phase? I tried
"Adaptive LED" and received results for both words individually.)

On the bmw.usa webpage, 'build your own', it lists Adaptive LED as standard on the X5.

Further, the ONLY light option I saw or was offered was the Laser LED headlights.

At the dealership I remember seeing some cars (not sure on the X5) that say "Adaptive LED" in the lens.

My X5 has "BMW LED" logo on the lens.

Thanks and apologies if this has already been covered.

adaptive LED will have the ability to swivel when you turn the wheel and say adaptive on the side, at least they did in my X3

see my old and bad pic below

Yes, I believe the adaptive LEDs are standard. My non laser headlights are adaptive but it does not read "Adaptive" on the headlight only "BMW LED".

Adaptives are an option in UK, standard are fixed LED highlights.

That's correct, adaptive is standard in BMW NA but it states only BMW Led.

I'm still a bit confused. Do the laser lights move from side to side when turning? I understand they have been "toned down" for the US market. Are they fully functional in Canada or Europe?

They do still do that, which is nice.

Can someone clarify something for me? I see 2 bulb housings for the Adaptive LED headlights on the new BMW's but from the very few pictures that I found with the low beams on, only the outer housing is turned on and the inner housing is off, but both housings are on with the LED Laser headlights. Is the inner housing a dummy? If so, is it possible to add another led bulb into the inner housing and get them both to turn on?

The inner one is dummy and doesn't turn on. I doubt it can easily be replaced with a real as the software may not Support it.

Sorry on the standard headlights the DRL's look like they blew a fuse.
Simply does not look like a BMW should.

IDK, I think the same could be said for the current laser DRL also... When you say "does not look like a BMW should" what does that mean? To me when I hear you say that I think about the iconic 'angel eye halo' DRLs, which both the standard and the laser DRLs no longer look like. Both variants someone could say "looks like they blew a fuse" when compared to what the DRLs used to be.

Really??? I though the inner one turn on when you turn on your high beams. I think both the laser and the led options can be coded for anti dazzle which would utilize all 4 projectors . I have the laser option and just had mine coded for anti dazzle and can confirm it works.

For non laser lights, its for sure dummy. In some other thread someone posted detailed diagram of the headlights

Yes I do mean the traditional angel eyes DRL's. And yes even the laser option on the X5 does not have the "full" halo. This really stems from a order from Munch to keep making the DRL's different for the sake of change. But at least the laser option provides the majority of the halo- the cheap DRL's on the standard lights look like a set of "bags under the eyes" Really horrendous to me. To make matters worse, is the "dummy" bulb being discussed here in the standard setup, crazy.
Part of me thinks BMW went this route to shame people to pony up the grand for the lasers to get a decent DRL on a $62,000 & up luxury SUV.

Yes, standard LED and adaptive LED headlights only have lighting units in the outer housings and blank dummy inner housings. The outer housings are high and low beam units. Also the turn signals are led bulb units and not the led "brow"

The Icon adaptive LED headlights with laser light haven functioning inner and outer housings. Both inner and outer units are high and low beams. The turn signals are the led brow over the headlights.

Haven't heard of anyone having their G05 coded for anti-dazzle yet.

Ben from RGSport did mine about 2 weeks ago. Success they work just like they did on my x6m and f15 x5.

Does that turn them into the full euro spec with the higher output too or just the anti-dazzle?
