We just purchased a 2019 X5 40i about a month ago. Overall, we are very happy with it despite some of the issues that are being discussed in this forum. This forum has been super helpful learning about some of those issues and possible workarounds.

One thing I have noticed is that rain hitting the windshield sounds very different from any other car I have owned, BMW or otherwise. Even light rain sounds like sand from a truck ahead is hitting the windshield. I initially thought it is sand only to find out that it's rain. It's very odd and my wife noticed is as well.

Is anyone else having a similar experience?

Btw, we have the standard glass, not acoustic glass.

The windshield on all G05s is acoustic glass. Only the side glass is standard glass unless you paid for the option to have acoustic on the the side windows. There is some debate over whether all four windows are acoustic glass or just the fronts.

The acoustic glass is all four side windows if you paid $300 for the option. I think originally they offered a $150 option that was only the two front-door windows.

For 2020 builds the price will be $600.

One thing I've noticed is that the vehicle is so quiet, other "normal" sounds are accentuated.

Could be wrong but for 2019 the acoustic glass is only for the front two. For 2020 it's all 4 windows - hence the 2x price bump.

edit: I was wrong - 2019 started with just the front two for $150 then all four for $300 - like Natahoa stated.

Tru dat. I have the ventilated seats. With the strongest setting you can hear them, but only in the driver’s seat, or passenger seat if using them there. The blower must be just behind your head.

But turn it down one and you have to try hard to hear it. With music or windows open, you’d never hear it.

I have the four-window acoustic glass and that car is super quiet. I’m sure it is quiet without them, but for $300 I couldn’t resist.

$600 would make me think harder tho. It was a good deal IMo.

Not completely related, but my windshield cracked a week after picking up my car. It's been 6 weeks and still no replacement windshield available in the US with no ETA....how is this possible?
