Update Failure after Checking for Vehicle Update

On my way to work this morning I checked for vehicle updates as I normally do, and as expected the vehicle told me there were no updates available for my vehicle at this time. But then, I got the indication of a failed vehicle update (photo below). I briefly shut the vehicle down twice but the message persists.

Has anyone else had this randomly pop up following a check for updates? Dealer wants me to bring it in... they say they've never seen this message before.

I think this is something we are all afraid of when it comes to remote updates!!!! You are the first I have read of it, please keep us updated.

I thought another member or two experienced the same thing and all was fine once iDrive was rebooted. You may want to try that and see if the message goes away.

Will do - it's at the dealer now.

<edit> Drove it to the dealer uneventfully, so I suspect this is a glitch in vehicle firmware that is causing a false error message to be displayed. </edit>

Dealer didn't hear back from BMW on Friday, so hoping this is resolved by way of a firmware update tomorrow or Tuesday.

This happened to me last July. Rebooted iDrive and ignored it. No issues

Well, a very uneventful ending to the story. Dealer reprogrammed my X5 with 11/2019.55 and called it good. There was no explanation as to what happened. 😡

The whole idea of software controlling the car makes me very nervous both from an intrinsic reliability standpoint and the ability of someone hacking into it while I'm driving
