Running an X5 in extreme heat
Hi all
I’ve been away from here for a long while having been in a LR Discovery for the last 2.5 years. I’m about to pull the trigger on a new X5 here in Dubai, before I do I’m interested to hear from anyone running one in a very hot climate, temperatures can hit 50/122 here in the summer, so wondered if anyone has experienced any issues particularly with AC efficiency. Also noticed on the build sheet S0823 ‘Hot climate version’ does anyone know what this adds to the vehicle ..... afaik this is not a customer option it’s something in the build (if that makes sense) Typically here it’s rare to factory order, the dealer usually imports in bulk with identical spec which is pretty high and has most options that I would ever want and more so I’m pretty excited, I have a decent choice of colours and interior. Thoughts appreciated. |

In the past, S0832 was "IHKA programming enhanced to produce more cooling output when selected to “hot country”. (Footwell and defrost vents closed to allow more center vent air for maximum cold air.)"
I doubt its much different now but check with a Genius/dealer to be sure. |

Well I can give you some insight from the AZ climate where we see 120 as well. AC works amazingly no issues there, no overheating issues, tires stick very well with little need to warm them up.
I'd like to know more about this S0823 Hot climate version! Looking at my window sticker I don't see mention of that. Tips I always suggest for hot climate: Get ceramic window tint all around this is very dramatic difference during those HOT summer days. Don't for get to close the panoroof shade, I did this once and about burned my legs when I got back in.

Thanks for the replies ...... makes a lot of sense for the hot climate version ...... the tints and roof shade I’m used to from my Discovery although never considered having the roof tinted ! Interesting!
Tints are pretty much essential here, legally you can have 40% but many go much higher and quality also differs hugely. |

We just came out of a very hot summer here in Australia; we were getting 35-46 degree days for weeks back in Dec/Jan, and my G05 X5 was fine. Fuel consumption goes up slightly (mileage down) due to A/C, otherwise as solid a rock.
The only thing I cant vouch for is paint exposure to continuous sun in extreme heat. I keep mine garaged when at home, and when I'm at work - so mine isn't exposed to continuous sun. I'm not sure how they would hold up over years in a fully exposed continuous heat scenario. Any car's paintwork would suffer in that anyway. Other than that, BMW's have become very reliable vehicles; minor production quality issues aside, once everything is working they are very good. 2-years back, I towed by small boat (~1700kgs) with my F15 30d (previous model) over 600km on a 46C degree day, and no issues. |
