2023 x5 40i 3rd Row
Okay so according to bmwusa - these should be back, but the online builder doesn’t show any option to add it?
Does anyone know what the deal is here? I have a build in waiting to be picked up in the next few days and would LOVE to add these if I can. Thanks |

Don’t rely on the online configurator. Ask your CA to confirm. Seems like 3rd row comes and goes. I recall another forum member was able to add 3rd row for MY23 right at the beginning of the model year but within days or a week, 3rd row option was removed again but thought he was able to add to his build.
See this post. https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...26&postcount=8 |

ukk If you see this, could you confirm if your X5 has the 3rd row? I went to look at your posted pics but only saw the exterior. |

Thanks I did read through the last few posts. Seems like the option came and went on the 2023 models and bmw didn’t update their website . Too bad bc I’d really like to have it.

Shllshck confirming that I have the 3rd row seats and air suspension. They came with Merino leather as well. Will post a pic for everyone soon; remember someone asking about the dimensions of the cargo area if the 3rd row is up. Will get to it too...
BTW, Happy holidays . |

Posting pics of the 3rd row
I usually do not use the 3rd row as I don't need it for the majority of the time, and I need the cargo space. Be aware that you lose some cargo space when the 3rd row seats are down, when compared to the regular 5-seater configuration. However, the option of 7 seats in a pinch (the 3rd row is really tight though), air suspension, and the ability to slightly move the 2nd row back (and get 1 more inch of leg room for the 2nd row) and altering the inclination of the 2nd row are the benefits.
The measurements of the cargo space with the 3rd row up: * width (side to side): 44 inches (45 inches at the widest [near the net crevices], and 43 inches at the narrowest). * depth (seat to trunk door): 16 inches from bottom of seat to lip of split gate, 11 inches from top of seat to enclosed trunk window, 12 inches (at the height of 30 cm as someone had asked this info). * height (cargo floor to roof): did not measure. Allow for some margin of error as I just used a tape. Here are the pics with the 3rd row up. |

Thanks for doing all of this. I’m keeping small amount of hope that in Jan they open it back up. |

They are good for kids. Adults have to sit at an angle with their face right up to the back of the second row. This can only be done for short trips. That all suits my family's needs.

I had third row in my 2015 x5 what a joke only kids could use those seats but if that’s what your needs are get it . I personally would be the type I’d look for a different vehicle. If I needed 3 rows after that you have no cargo area

I think there are a bunch of us that have an occasional grandparent or kids friend in the car where if the kids could jump in the back that’s all you ever need. It’s not for frequent or ever long duration trips. It’s just to move 6 people in one car once in a blue moon. None of us want to get a larger vehicle and sacrifice daily drive for this very infrequent purpose, which is what makes the x5 option so great. |

Sorry if I missed this but in what way do you lose cargo space if the seats fold down and into the trunk space (thereby creating a flat surface presumably)? Are you talking about maybe 0.5 inch of height (from the floor to the roof)?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9_60tu0hPc&t=100s I do agree that for the everyday cargo usage this is not a big deal, but during long trips in a 5 seater configuration, any additional storage capacity is always welcome. Last edited by ukk; 01-05-2023 at 09:04 AM.. |

I love BMW and I was recently looking for a SUV for a 2+3 family. I want a 7 seater to have 2 extra seats for occasions.
I considered X7 but gave up on it because of: 1. Its size (too big) 2. Price (rather over my budget) 3. Bench (2nd row) having middle seat more narrow than X5 (sic! I triple checked that!) So I found a dealer with X5 7 seater in stock and checked it out. 1. 3rd row it fine for kids. Kids only. 2. Adults can't sit in 3rd row. I'm about 178 cm and with 2nd row moved fully forward I had no space for my legs. Angle was pretty uncomfortable too. 3. Very limited trunk space with 3rd row up 4. Bench (2nd row) in 7 seater differs from the one in 5 seater! If you measure space between ISOFIXes it's 42 cm (compared to 49,5 cm). This kills the main advantage of X5 for me. |

I also went to Volvo to check out XC90 and I found its 3rd quite spacious. I think it has the most space in this segment. I didn't like however:
1. Bench (2nd row) middle seat having very firm back. 2. Overall car look - mostly inside. Finally I decided to buy Audi Q7. Its bench has actually 3 separated seats which is great. 3rd row leg room is OK, there could be 5 cm of extra head room for better comfort. I really hope the next BMW X5 model (I don't expect any big LCI changes) to have more space in 7 seater. Something to compete with Audi Q7. |

I just wanted to clarify. Are you saying the 5 seat only configuration has a different middle seat width than the x5 with the 3rd row? So the bench in the x5 changes if you get the 3rd row? I only ask bc above you also mentioned the x7 having this issue. Thanks! |
