Actual production date vs. assigned production week
Hey everyone - wanted to do a quick survey/gather some info on the expected time line to take the actual delivery. I pretty much have extracted all I could from the dealership and BMW genius so turning to the forum to get better clarity.
The quick backstory is that I placed an order on 5/3 and actually received a production number right away (which on the website shows the 2nd stage "production scheduled", instead of just "order received"). The CA told me that it is a May build but he doesn't expect me to get the car for another two months+ since it's an x5 m50i. I called BMW genius the next day who told me that my production actually is already assigned to week 21, and he thinks it's unlikely that there would be a delay, which now got my hope up... I've posted a similar question in a reply to others' thread and so far I've seen conflicting responses. (thanks to all the helpful forum members!) A couple of replies say that assembly does happen according to the assigned production week but someone on the x7 forum also said that his vehicle is still yet to start production despite passing the assigned time. So what has been your experience with assigned week vs. actual production time? The more recent data points the better given the supply chain issues... It looks like your schedule pretty much followed the projected time line. And same here - I refresh that site way more than necessary |

Very rarely will the actual production date be later than the scheduled production week. They sometimes move it up but generally when it is scheduled is when it is produced.

Here is my journey so far
Order specs: 2021 X5 45e (M Sport, BSM, Coffee Vernasca, Executive, Hitch, M Sports Brakes, Extended showdowline, HK sound, Multi-contour seats) 4/30 - Order Placed and production number issued - dealer stated BW 19 5/3 - HK was taken off, everything else stayed 5/4 - Production Scheduled - BW 21 i.e. week of 5/23 So now, it's a waiting game and hopefully, it stays on track. Question for the group: I would like to add the Driver Assistance Professional package to my order. I understand it may be possible since the production has not started yet. Would modifying order now push out prod date? The dealer is looking into it, but I would love to get your take. |

You need to find out what your build week is. Dealers don't always have allocations immediately even if they take your order. They should be able to tell you what is your build week pretty easily.

While true dealers sometimes sell without an allocation it shouldn't apply in the OP's case since he got a production number. Production numbers are tied to an allocation. Your advice to call Genius is the way to go.

This made me hopeful. Coz you are 2 weeks ahead of me and they are 2 weeks early in producing yours. Week 22 build here. Can't wait for mine to come.
