Actual production date vs. assigned production week

Hey everyone - wanted to do a quick survey/gather some info on the expected time line to take the actual delivery. I pretty much have extracted all I could from the dealership and BMW genius so turning to the forum to get better clarity.

The quick backstory is that I placed an order on 5/3 and actually received a production number right away (which on the website shows the 2nd stage "production scheduled", instead of just "order received"). The CA told me that it is a May build but he doesn't expect me to get the car for another two months+ since it's an x5 m50i. I called BMW genius the next day who told me that my production actually is already assigned to week 21, and he thinks it's unlikely that there would be a delay, which now got my hope up...

I've posted a similar question in a reply to others' thread and so far I've seen conflicting responses. (thanks to all the helpful forum members!) A couple of replies say that assembly does happen according to the assigned production week but someone on the x7 forum also said that his vehicle is still yet to start production despite passing the assigned time.

So what has been your experience with assigned week vs. actual production time? The more recent data points the better given the supply chain issues...

3/24 - Placed Order (dealer did not have a remaining allocation...)
4/2 - Order Received (Production No. Assigned)
4/8 - Scheduled for Production (Week 18 Build Date assigned)
4/12 - Moved back to "Order Received"
4/13 - Used delay as an opportunity to add DHP and B&W sound
4/14 - Status updated to Scheduled for Production (Week 19)
5/3 - Status changed to "Production Begins; BMW Genius advises anticipated completion date of 5/17

NOTE: I check "My Garage" several times a day hoping to see a status change.....

Congrats! You'll be soon enjoying your new ride!

It looks like your schedule pretty much followed the projected time line. And same here - I refresh that site way more than necessary

Very rarely will the actual production date be later than the scheduled production week. They sometimes move it up but generally when it is scheduled is when it is produced.

Here is my journey so far

Order specs: 2021 X5 45e (M Sport, BSM, Coffee Vernasca, Executive, Hitch, M Sports Brakes, Extended showdowline, HK sound, Multi-contour seats)

4/30 - Order Placed and production number issued - dealer stated BW 19
5/3 - HK was taken off, everything else stayed
5/4 - Production Scheduled - BW 21 i.e. week of 5/23

So now, it's a waiting game and hopefully, it stays on track.

Question for the group: I would like to add the Driver Assistance Professional package to my order. I understand it may be possible since the production has not started yet. Would modifying order now push out prod date? The dealer is looking into it, but I would love to get your take.

Gotcha - my timeline is about similar. Hope it stays on track

I added Parking Assistance package during your stage and it did not affect my production schedule at all. CA confirmed that before the Add. Car was subsequently built on time, actually a couple days earlier than scheduled in April.

As long as you don’t have any individual options then you should be able to make changes until a VIN is assigned.

You need to find out what your build week is. Dealers don't always have allocations immediately even if they take your order. They should be able to tell you what is your build week pretty easily.

I was given a week 20 build (this week). It went into production last Monday (this is parts ordered, preparation for beginning assembly, as I understand it). My build is scheduled for completion 5/18.

I have basically all options:
-X5 M50i
-BSM
-Black Extended Merino
-Leather Dash
-Alcantara Headliner
-Carbon Trim
-Extended Shadowline Trim
-22" wheels
-Trailer hitch
-B&W
-DHP
-PAP
-DAP
-Executive Package
-Massaging Seats
-Heated Front + Steering Wheel

Same build as yours minus B&W and different trim, I did fine line wood. Went into production same day as yours, the genius automated line is telling me 5/15. Hopefully will be driving it within the next couple of weeks....

While true dealers sometimes sell without an allocation it shouldn't apply in the OP's case since he got a production number. Production numbers are tied to an allocation. Your advice to call Genius is the way to go.

This made me hopeful. Coz you are 2 weeks ahead of me and they are 2 weeks early in producing yours. Week 22 build here. Can't wait for mine to come.
