Yes they are very aware of the issue by now. Its impacting their more premium customers and the last thing they want is a bunch of lemon buy backs.

2020 X5MC AC out

one week into my new 2020 X5MC the AC was intermittent. A week later it was out completely.
Took to the dealer and was told it was the compressor and a valve problem. Then they said the parts were on back order. Its been there almost 2 weeks now and I'm only hearing crickets.
Clearly not an isolated issue.

not at all. This is impacting all BMW V8's so m550, m5, m8, X5M, X6M, X5 M50i.....

One good thing is that when my car was fixed I reached out to BMWNA and they worked with me getting my compensation for my lost of use and inconvenience
It actually happened without any resistance so I applaud BMW for doing the right thing.

Yup a/c deffo on the blink on my M50i. Seems to have to have the fans turner right up for it to actually be on the coolest setting otherwise it blows warm.

May we ask how BMW compensated you for this issue?

Basically they calculated how many days the car was without working AC (in my case 6 weeks) until it was fixed then rounded it up to 2 month car payment refund. The dealership also pushed for me as well considering it failed on me within a week after purchasing the car. It was a shitty situation but in my mind BMW made up for it given the circumstances.

I basically told them the situation in detail with exact dates of what occurred and the assigned rep came up with this solution along with help from my dealership. Took about a week for them get back to me. I think each case will be different depending on a lot of variables (age of car, when it failed, how long it failed, mileage etc)

That was actually thoughtful and considerate of them.

I guess we’re so use to hearing nothing but horror stories about car manufacturers that we often overlook or don’t pay attention to the good ones. I wonder if they’re offering the same for others who were put in similar situations?

1st time posting here. Took deivery of my x5 45e last 2 week. Ac failed from day one. It was intermittent at 1st with drive side vent blowing hot air.dealer took the car for 3 days and resolved issue..2 days after the ac went completely dead. Left the car with dealer today. Very disappointing experience since this is my 1st bmw. Been driving for the past 20years, never had an ac issue with other brand..

Is a specific VIN range effected or is this hit/miss or every vehicle produced having the same HVAC issue?

I have had my AC go out 2x since taking delivery of 2020 X5M50i in May. 1st time(June) they recharged AC worked until last week and it went out again. Drove it for 2 days waiting for appt at dealership then it starts working again randomly. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before it stops again. Glad I am not alone.

So sorry for the late reply. Since my last visit to bmw dealer, i had drove my car for about 1400km without any ac issue. To my understanding they have change my filter dryer, ac pressure hose and did a full oil and gas change for the ac. Till today all is good. Lets hope it stays that way. Hope you have resolve your ac problem.

Strike 2 on BMW, I have initiated a separate thread regarding a paint issue upon delivery, and now noticing intermittent AC issues on my 2021 X5 m50i... great start so far.

Unfortunately I had similar AC issues on a 2018 BMW 540i.

Granted it's been 115-120 where I am, but noticed an intermittent AC issue this week with only a few hundred miles on the car. Upon start, air takes awhile to reach anywhere near cold, then upon driving it'll turn semi-cool but certainly nowhere near "cold". Looks like air turns back to a neutral temp as I slow the car down such as stop lights etc., or even while on the freeway... This does not feel normal in my book...

Anyone with '21s experiencing this problem?

Update: Dealer has found metal debris in the AC system (not certain where)... sounds like this is happening again on 2021 models... With BMW for recommended repair.

I've found the A/C works very well in my 21 X5 M50. No problems to report luckily. My 2018 G30 540 was middling, and that model had some well known issues of poor performance. It seemed to be the programming that was the issue, not accounting for solar gain or trying to keep the car "quiet" and not blast cold air.

Yeah, that's unfortunate. I thought the new compressor was a different part number? Either BMW is still using the same crappy part that experienced widespread failures or your car just didn't get the newer one.

Is this a result of me not fiddling with the slider that is embedded two layers deep in the iDrive? Should that slider adjust air from just the middle vent or both driver-side vents? I can't remember if the manual hot/cold slider on all of my previous BMWs adjusted air temperature coming out of all of the events...

Appreciate it,

Adam
I have this exact issue on my 21 45e. I can’t figure out what the deal is. The middle vents are super cold and the side vents are warmer. And then the rear vents are even warmer and the temp for the car is all synced to 68. The only interim fix for keeping me cool after the initial cool down blast is to keep recirculation on the entire time.

Is there something wrong, or is this normal? Guess I better schedule an appointment with service.

So far so good, though the ventilated seats leave a lot to be desired.

Code them for maximum output and your problem is solved. They will work as originally designed not in the minimized fashion they are coded in from the factory for MPG/Efficiency/Sound.

I definitely have to do some coding on this car. Never knew that ventilated seats can be turned up though. Thank you!
