Do you reckon your dealer would hold your car if delivered in May until July for 242?

I was told they have to ( maybe want to for financial reasons?) register cars within 14 days of receiving them, else BMW reallocates them. That might be made up.

But maybe you should ask now, rather than a surprise later.

"emissions based registration tax", that is ridiculous and every bit as unacceptable as our "gas guzzler" tax. Elections certainly do have consequences.

well we actually made our configuration in december 2022 ... but our SA only locked in the order in may i believe.

we did change it to individual Tanzanite blue maybe that's why it took a bit longer ??

also added merino tartufo (wasn't a fan of the sensafin smell), comfort climate pack and 4zone climate control in hindsight

I believe that Tanzanite blue is a priority 1 order that shouldn’t effect the build that much (I have ordered 2 M4 convertibles in TB and no delay). TurtleBoy might have been referring to the Manufaktor Individual colors which needs approval at the BMW national level, such as in the US at BMW NA special sales. Tanzanite Blue is Priority 1 in the order guides and doesn’t need approval.

Great color combo, can’t wait see pictures posted as I know over on the M3/M4 forums that tartufo has a cult like following.

My dealer said the reduction in q1 production is down to shortage of drivetrain parts.

It would sound to me the parts are being repurposed to early build models that need rectifying!

My order was originally expecting mid Jan production but now March.

Iv been told no issue waiting for 242 if it’s an end of May / June Delivery just means il have to wait an additional few weeks while the car sits there. Hopefully though the lead time will change and it arrives sooner than expected.

This topic is right where I am.

Ordered early December, was a week 2 build, now week 11.

Frustrated and impatient (really wish BMW would share a reason). And when I get frustrated and impatient, I start revisiting my choice.

Choosing the X5 50e came after a lengthy research process and cross shopping several vehicles. So, now when I encounter this delay and obstacle to my desire for immediate gratification, I start looking at the other options again (primarily the Grand Cherokee 4xe). Looking at the other options then becomes something akin to reading Amazon reviews on a product... "I mean I know the product is 4.5 stars, but look at these four bad reviews out of 300 reviews... Maybe I don't want this product if it has these problems..." And I start rethinking my order.

But it sure seems, that all these new PHEV vehicles from any manufacture each have their own issues as highlighted by owners frustrated enough to share their experiences with the appropriate forums.

So... Being in the same place as the OP, I think, as difficult as it is to do... I am probably going to wait for the week 11 build.

Every time I revisit the other contender vehicles (Grand Cherokee 4xe, Range Rover Sport PHEV, Volvo XC90, etc) it just reminds me how I got to the 50e... When it is working, it really looks to be best of both (all) worlds.

Sure do enjoy these forums to see I'm not the only one in the same place.

I've only had one marginal service experience among my last 6 BMWs. Even on new models where other's patience was being seriously tested, I had 100% reliability. Luck, perhaps. But when I circled back on the 50e decision due to CEL issues, the factor that always brought me back to the X5 was *safety*. The northern winter driving stability of xDrive has kept me safe, in control and out of trouble for many years now. I don't know how you should weight the accidents you were able to *avoid* (but other drivers around you *couldn't avoid*). For me, they gave me the patience to accept any unexpected service problems with the new build. And luckily (or is it Karma?) no problems have yet arisen. 👍

Drivetrain supply shortages...perhaps they are selling more X5 50e's than planned? I took delivery of mine in late Nov...no issues to date. Based on my experience, I recommend getting one now.

I am in the same boat. Week 11 build, according to a call to Genius. But the website still just shows first step “order received.” How long does it usually take to show up 112? My local dealor still has a 50e that I test drove, but I did not want black nor fake leather. It is also not an mSport, and does not have the DAP. Originally the salesman told me I would have the car in 6-8 weeks. Now it’s looking like April/May. I’ve also contemplated canceling my order and buying a Genesis GV80 prestige for about $12,000 less and a 10yr/100k mile powertrain warranty. But the 50e is a lot more fun to drive and we don’t have a Genesis dealor within a 2 hour drive. Their service experience ranks terribly. So, I guess I’ll just try to be patient and keep my order and tell myself the extra delay is a good thing, as they may be resolving some build issues.

Looked at the genesis as well, but really seeking at least some "all electric" driving range. Coming out of a 2014 Tacoma that I love, but it is just way too thirsty. Hoping to greatly reduce gas station time going forward. Limiting the search to PHEV and SUV and some modicum of luxury, really makes for a short list of contenders...

Have you run the numbers for your situation? I seems like in many areas of CA it is more expensive to run the 50e on electric than on gas.

Yep, this is exactly right. Not many choices for a luxury PHEV.

An acquaintance has a GC 4xe for his wife. They're very pleased with it. It's definitely not in the same league as an X5 in luxury, but they have had no issues with it

We looked at XC90 T8, it was fine, but didn't tow enough for us, and it had TERRIBLE reliability ratings. Like literally everyone and everything said to expect to have issues, and to make sure you kept a warranty on it or it will break you. That's to be expected when a company gets taken over by a Chinese company though. I wouldn't buy a Volvo, and the way they have it implemented is kinda garbage. The electric powertrain is only on the rear axle, and gas only on the front. So you get torque steer in gas only, and weird dynamics in AWD. They had it out first, but it's by far the worst implementation of a PHEV.

The problem with the GC 4xe is the same as with the Lincoln PHEV models—they’re decent cars but the ‘handoff’ between EV and ICE power is clunky and not completely refined like it is in the 45/50e.

The current gen. (4th?) ZF transmission w/ step-down 1st gear for all-electric starts is THE best!
