There's a reason Apple is such a wealthy company, those cost cutting measures add up and they've got to pay those management bonuses somehow.

The new iPhones come with a with a cable yes but a USB C to Lightning cable. Everyone's charging brick for their old phone has a USB A connector. So now that's even more costs to our department because of fucking Apple. I hate Apple so much.

I guess now everyone needs to buy a adapter to. Apple really loves their fuckin adapters uh
Apple has always pushed for new technology. USBC is the new norm. You should eventually upgrade anyway or get a $4 adapter. It's not a big deal and you could buy $APPL so your dividends can pay for the extra adapters.

Something else that is an issue is whether people have an existing charger that can fast charge. Not all chargers can do this. And it doesn't matter if the charger can produce enough power. If it's not fast charge compliant then you're screwed.

You might say, big deal you can still charge the phone with a non fast charge charger. Yes. But it'll take forever, especially if the phone's battery is almost completely drained or if you running an app that requires a ton of processing.

Lol, in a IT environment that's unfortunately not how it works.

Not enough petty cash for a $4 adapter?

I work in IT, and just buy the small stuff myself with my own money for home use.

For the past six years, I have been buying accessories for my work office as well if I don't like the standard-issue stuff in the store room. Two years ago, the guy in charge of desktop hardware was in my office and noticed that I had a $169 mechanical "clicky" keyboard and not one of the $15 throwaways that they give out to everyone. When he asked how I got it approved, I told him to look at the "personal property" tag on the bottom where our inventory asset tag should have been located. He was shocked that I would use my own money, but I spend 9 hours per day (pre-COVID) at my keyboard and should have what I'm comfortable with.....

People just need to get used to this trend. When Apple announced they were no longer supplying chargers with their iPhone 12, they were met with universal guffaws by others. Samsung even created and ran ads mocking that decision.

And yet, Samsung, Xiaomi, and others have now also decided to drop the charger from their latest smartphones

Yes, it will inconvenience some - but for the vast majority of others, it's not such a major problem; most people will have chargers from their previous phones that they can use.

As with others, I plonk my phone on the wireless charger overnight. And it's always at 100% for me by the time I wake up. So the 7.5W wireless charging speed is not an issue for me; I don't need my phone to get to 100% at 3.00am while I'm fast asleep.

I do have a wired charger at my desk, though. Mainly for my iPad. My iPhone charge normally lasts a full day, but, if I need to top up at my desk, I use the cable.

I do agree with you on the wireless charging experience in the X3. It's horrendous! The first time I used it with navigation running on the phone, I was shocked by how hot my phone got! Wireless charging in the X3 seems to work OK, only if the phone isn't doing anything too taxing.

Navigation does draw a lot of power, so if I use my iPhone for traffic directions, I now use the wired connection exclusively.

Samsung is even worse than Apple, just one step behind. They mock Apple for dropping the headphone jack, then drop it in S20 and Note10. They mock Apple for dropping the charger, then stop including it in the S21.

I'm done with both companies at this point.

It's great when companies compete against each other. They become so focused on each other, they forget the majorly important detail of the relationship.....the customer.

Is anyone else puzzled that charging phones via cable is still relevant? The ONLY time I use a cable to charge is on an airplane and overnight stays elsewhere with the pictured charger. In all my frequent spots are wireless charging docks.

Wireless charging is much slower than a cable, most new phones can charge at up to 45-65W by cable but only <15W by wireless.

When I read comments like this I have to say that's completely outlandish. No, charging phones via cable is not going out of style and yes, is still 100% relevant.

Probably, but since I'm always by a charger it makes no difference to me. I have a wireless charger at my desk in my home office, have a wireless charger on my night stand by the bed, have a wireless charger in the model 3 and cable charge and use carplay on the other vehicles. PLUS I rarely ever need to charge it during the day if I charged it all night on the night stand.

So I don't understand people running out of charge on their phones. My friend send me screen shots sometimes from his phone in the middle of the day and I see that red battery and it makes me cringe...

Exactly, I much prefer have my charger that can charge 0% to 50% in 30 mins than hours and hours.

Im in the group that only gets a new phone when mine goes down the drain so hopefully my S10 doesn’t crash anytime soon so I won’t have to deal with this BS.

Or those who’s 4 year old phones are failing.... and that phone was 1k also. Don’t see the relevance to your assertion.

Thats what they said about CD-ROMs.

"Give it a few years" is what was said when Apple stopped including a CD drive.

You can't charge that fast with the 5W adapter the iPhones used to come with anyway, so I don't really understand why it's Armageddon all of a sudden.
