Do you mean barely noticeable cos of their size, or barely noticeable in the sound they produce?
I've ordered this upgrade and am worried I should have gone all out for the Harman speakers... Is the sound quality that bad? |

The sound quality certainly is a bit of a let down for me. I think a car in this price range (especially with the extra "HiFi" option) should sound much better. I managed to tweak it a little by messing with the sound controls (bass/treble/fader) and can now "live with it"... but it certainly doesn't sound as good as I would hope for. I have read someone saying the Harman is a much better option, and had I known the HiFi option was this "bad", I would have definitely gone for it. |

Hello from France,
Sure the Hifi's sound is good, really better by comparison with the standart option. But it could be better with an equalizer. Does any body has the solution to activate it ? |

Its a bloody ripper! Fantastic sound but only really comes into its own LOUD. If you only listen to your music at low to medium volume you wouldnt be doing it justice - spend your money elsewhere. Its good at the top and bottom end, and to their credit they have even managed to get the mid range to hold its own too. Havent touched the equalizer and there is barely any need to adjust bass and treble either. |

The Hardon option is out of this world... very much worth it especially once you have equalised it by someone whon knows what they are doing.....

I've got the HK speaker upgrade and it's excellant, but as previously posted, it's best played loud. I constantly messed around with the EQ settings for weeks until I found happy medium to suit all music sources.
I have the nav pro upgrade on mine to and without a doubt it sounds better played from CD as opposed from the hard drive. I've noticed it sometimes imports the music at a bitrate that sounds flat for some music. This is the first time I've had a HK speaker option on any of my BMW's and it's one of those options that once you have had you won't be able to live without on the next car you get. |

Yepp, got the HK. It is just unbeliveble... Take a look and a listen to "The lord of the rings" in the DVD player and the HK sound... You will be surprised...

Just got a 2015 with the HK audio and frankly, I think it leaves a lot to be desired. At higher volumes it sounds harsh. And where is the bass? The underseat bass modules don't seem to produce any really low bass. Disappointed...
Anyone install a powered sub? Last edited by themishmosh; 06-27-2014 at 05:57 PM.. |

Yeah, the underseat subs are really not even noticeable. I question if they are even actually hooked up....
my old wrx had a sub under the passenger seat and you could feel it through the seat if you rested your hand on it. I've thought about the focal speaker upgrade for the doors, but I'm worried about messing up something on the doors during installation (and haven't found a guide to install for the X1 specifically. they are all for the 3 series) |

I have the Hi-Fi system in my X1 and I can definitely hear the subwoofers but it really depends on the music being played. For example if I play some modern pop or hip-hop the subs can really be heard. However if I'm listening to pretty much any other kind of music it's like there is no bass and the subwoofer has been disconnected.

Good subwoofers are those you don't notice. They should be transparent and increase the deep bass without calling attention to themselves.
That said, I would not call the HK units subwoofers at all. They don't go deep enough - they're just extra bass woofers. Also, the placement means that if you spill anything on the floor, you risk it getting into them, and they're expensive to replace. I know from experience. |

The HK setup is really good. It's not for people who like to "pump up the base". If you turn up the volume there is a complex way of increasing frequencies, not all of them at a same level. |
