Our church encourages concealed carry and it is legal in AL. We also have a security team for every service and event comprised of a group of 100 so we only serve one Sunday per month.

I have served on that team for the past year with a great group of men. Most of the team captains are either LEO's or retired LEO's.

What happened in TX was very sad but a great example of how much safer you are in a zone that allows people to defend themselves vs. a gun free zone where your only chance is being faster than the other guy or shelter in place until the cops show up.

There is a long history of men bringing guns to church starting in New England during King Phillips war, etc. Its just a sad commentary that it may be necessary in these times as well.

I don't own one, but I may have to pick one up. I've shot a few and really liked them. My concern in now that our idiot PM is going to ban hand gun ownership in Canuckistan.

Gunman shot dead by parishioners at Texas Church

'Because of the quick action of these two men, this evil event was over in six seconds'

https://nationalpost.com/news/world/...-armed-members

A livestream video caught the terrifying moment when the man, whom authorities have not identified by name, stood next the pews wearing a dark hood and started firing a long gun before the church’s volunteer security team members shot him.

“My understanding is he was a reserve deputy and had significant training, his own shooting range and taught other people how to shoot, and taught many people in this church how to be prepared,” Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton told reporters on Monday.

The incident took place in White Settlement, a suburb northwest of Fort Worth, at the West Freeway Church of Christ.

Local TV station NBC DFW, citing unnamed law enforcement sources, identified the gunman as Keith Kinnunen, a 43-year-old resident of River Oaks, Texas, who had a criminal record including charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in 2009. A Texas Department of Public Safety spokeswoman did not immediately confirm that.

The Fort Worth Fire Department said three people, including the suspected shooter, were transported from the scene in critical condition on Sunday. Two, including the suspect, died en route to the hospital, said Macara Trusty, a spokeswoman for local emergency services provider MedStar, said in a phone interview. The third later died of their wounds, the Dallas Morning News reported.

Two more people sustained minor injuries as they ducked for cover inside the church, Trusty said.

The gunman was killed by armed members of the church after he opened fire during Sunday services. One other parishioner was killed by the assailant.
Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick praised the church’s volunteer security guards for taking down the shooter. “Because of the quick action of these two men, this evil event was over in six seconds,” Patrick said in a statement on Sunday.

One of the two guards said in a Facebook post that he was acting against evil. “The events at West Freeway Church of Christ put me in a position that I would hope no one would have to be in, but evil exists and I had to take out an active shooter in church,” he said.

Patrick said a new state law allowing concealed carry in places of worship enabled the parishioners to stop the gunman. The law, which took effect in September, was passed in the wake of a shooting at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs in 2017 that left 26 dead.

Paxton praised the law and encouraged other states to allow citizens to carry concealed weapons for defense in cases of active shooters. Gun control advocates and some religious leaders have criticized such laws, arguing that weapons have no place in sacred houses of worship.

“I do hope that through this tragedy, more churches will prepare the way this church did, not just in Texas but really across the nation,” Paxton said. “This is the model for the future.”

This just aired, interview with the volunteer security personnel who stopped the shooter with his own gun and footage of the live stream. Proof our gun laws need to allow conceal carry. I checked if it's allowed in CA, it does seem it is but I'm not sure how much red tape there is. Banning guns doesn't prevent those who break laws from carrying and using them.

It varies by County. Some you can get a concealed permit others not so much.

It already is legal to carry in church most states. Bars, govt buildings are main exclusions in washington anyway.

Mr Wilson is a bonafide hero. He faced down a guy who just blew two men away(RIP) with a shotgun at very short range. Facing a shotgun which is an absolutely ferocious weapon at these distances that’s pretty much pointed at you already and drawing and firing a pistol is the epitome of Big Brass Balls. Kudos to you Mr Wilson, you saved lives. Yes guns in church and other areas can save lives of innocents preyed upon by criminals and maniacs who can always find deadly weapons.
For the record Wilson’s pistol of choice that day was a Sig Sauer P229 chambered in .357 Sig.

NRA has the biggest greatest consumer scam going.

It’s like selling defective cars to people and making society in general pay for repairs.

Yeah did you know youre 80 percent more likely to get shot by a gun if you have one in the home, also if you have a pool your more likely to drown, and a chainsaw get cut by one, and a car have an accident, a dog get bit by one, a wife get nagged by one, know liberals do more facepalm and so on.
