DIY CF mud/rock guards

Winter is coming so finally installed my DIY carbon fiber rock guards. I think they look pretty good, and most importantly should continue to help keep stones from the side of the car. This plus PPF under door crease and rockers should work. I had the plastic CAD printed ones since I bought the car but wanted something a bit different.

.5mm CF sheet from Amazon.
3M auto trim tape.

At first glance it looks ok but once you see how they’re stuck, literally, to the car it looks tacky (no pun intended). I like the idea but not the execution. Good attempt though on this mod. If you like it, rock it

Def not a seamless look from inside wheel well, but not too bad looking from front.

It’s more of a function over form situation as I am unaware of any integrated or BMW options to solve for the rock slinging these sticky summer tire compounds cause.

Our GO5 40i with summer 22” P-Zeros doesn’t sling anything at all (not ZR rubber). Same widths as the F95 specs, too.

I think it looks fine. I do think you’ll want some form of mechanical fastener in there. Double-sided tape alone is way too sketchy given the abuse those will take. They’ll get torqued right off when you get a bunch of water and or snow/grit blasted into and around them from the tires, especially at higher speeds. They’ll turn into lethal discs after your tire spits them out at unsuspecting pedestrians or other cars.

Good idea. I used quite a bit of wide trim tape, but it would be quite easy to drill a small pilot hole for a plastic pop rivet of the BMW variety.

They have done well first few days, which included some heavy rain driving. And in an area of road where there was some fresh loose aggregate I could happily hear the sound of rocks pinging off the CF - not my door- quite clearly. 😃
