Automatic might suck compared to DCT, but manual is for those who haven't traded in their left leg to the devil in exchange for computer operated clutches.

If I were ever in the position to buy an M3 It'd be a tough choice between manual and DCT... I've driven the DCT and it is a fantastic gearbox but a manual V8 RWD coupe is hard to go past.

I regularly use both iDrives and honestly prefer the earlier one actually. It also has a nicer feel to its controller IMHO.

DCT is absolutely awesome on the track, agreed. Yet I'd prefer manual for 99% of my driving - so I'm quite happy they are worth less

Short cut buttons are great. Using an old idrive i found myself aimlessly tapping the trim-piece where the buttons should be. Needless to say I felt a bit silly.

I must agree, the new idrive is light years ahead of the prehistoric one that was in my 335.

Far out Rossi, you sound like a dealer!

I like the DCT, but prefer the 'connection' with 6MT and went out of my way to buy one. The new i-drive is nice, but not +$10-20k nice. I-drive poos on anything merc or lexus offer that I have seen, so the new i-drive is real good!

When you do laps up chapel st, can you keep DCT locked in 1st so you can sit on 7,000rpm to help attract broads?

Until BMW put POI's (speed camera, red light camera etc) on the Navi as standard no HDD navi for me. It's just too easy to get the disk hacked so they appear on the screen which saves heaps in potential fines.

Nav certainly is a bit faster, address input is slightly easier and graphics are clearer and crisper with higher resolution - I still prefer the colours and style of the older version. And really, the local nav isn't that good on either compared to the way they work in Europe. TBH I haven't measured the screens but can't say the older one is discernably smaller?

Shortcut buttons mean I have to look down at the cluster (until memorised) whereas I'd rather navigate through by moving and holding the knob for 3 secs. Also find the single 'Menu' button easier to find if I need to navigate back.

I quite agree there are advantages of the newer technology but still think the ergonomics of the original are better once you are familiar.

Do the non M 3 series have voice command? TBH its pretty shit and slow. BMW could have done a better job with voice command. Its only usefull for destination input and telephone book
With the Professional nav I think - mine does. It's stupid though - sometimes use it for phone commands or to get to a particular radio station. If you try and show it to anyone they start talking and ruin it.
