Valentine One Gen 2

Have a X5 40i being built next week and been trying to get summary level information on usability/compatibility of a Valentine 1 G2. Lots of older posts and curious about the latest software/hardware build.

Will I have any interference/falsing generated from running CarPlay wirelessly?

I see a lot of dialog around gesture control and disabling the rear laser detection...does this still require disabling rear laser detection only in the current software build?

Will the standard cigarette lighter plug work in the X5 OEM receptor without an adapter?

Cigarette lighter will not work. You’ll have to buy a cigarette lighter adapter that has a USc To plug it in available on Amazon

The plug supplied with my V1G2 worked fine in my 2024 X5’s 12v socket. The laser detector did not play nice with the rain sensor during precipitation. I have a profile with the laser detector disabled in the V1 Companion app as laser is not used here in PA.

but.. .. I was in the Burg recently and had to drive up the USA's steepest street.. .. my passengers were freaking out, it's Canton Ave, just off of Banksville Rd. I also went up/down Rialto St., off of 28 at the 31st bridge. I thought it was a chance to use the Downhill Assist but it was too slow doing that and locals wanted to go faster

Why wouldn't the 12V power outlet between the cupholders work with the V1 lighter adapter? Works fine with my V1G1.

Gesture control sets off the V1 non-stop, I had to cover the sensors (behind the sunroof button) with black vinyl to get it to stop, just disabling gesture control does not work.

Also look at a blend mount and mirror tap, best way to mount and power the V1's.

I owned V1's long ago, but then GPS and arrows on other brands came out. Mike Valentine refuses to embrace GPS in his detectors and I don't want to have to use a companion app every ride so I've gone to Escort and now Uniden and been much more happy. I have mine wired into the fuse box btw.

One of the biggest turnoffs for me as well. I don't have a detector in the X7 but in the truck I have a Uniden R8 and previously had a R7 and Redline. All are good options, and all have built-in GPS (with lockouts!).

Yup. The R8 is what I'm using and have been very happy. I had my parents in the car a few night ago and the Ka started slow chirping. My dad asked if detectors were good for anything these days compared to his first one 30+ years ago. I said, well that sound (ka) is only cops. It kept slow chirping for awhile, then slowly increased, and then sure enough well over a mile down the road there was the trooper that wasn't marked on Waze. Made me happy. Its an easy part of the highway to go fast on. I said, see - just saved me from a ticket. I find the Waze/Radar detector combo works really well.

I have used V1s since the 1980s. I have a V1G2 with the V1 Driver.
I tried Escort for a while, but in terms of radar not lidar, nothing beats Uniden.

There was a known issue with some of the 12V adaptors. There was a service bulletin on them.

SIB 61 01 20, updated socket

I recently upgraded to an R8 from an R3 and I've been impressed by it. If you haven't already done so, I'd highly suggest downloading the R8 companion app on your phone and using it in conjunction with the detector.
