Why No Ceramic Brakes ?
Just wondered why Ceramic Brakes are not offered on the X5M ?
They are on all the other new released models M2 & M3 touring etc. Thanks in advance. |

Believe me that is the only option that I told myself wouldn't buy another car without. Yet ended up with X5MC... There is conversion, just can't justify $20K for no brake dust.

I don’t know the real answer, but I’d wager BMW didn’t anticipate much demand for carbon brakes on this fat minivan. I would of spec’d them out for sure personally.
A set off a wrecked M5 or M8 would prob bolt up. Might not be $20k, but it’s still gonna cost.

Could be due to the weight of the vehicle. My X5MC went through a set of OEM rotors at only 30K miles and I’m not hard on my car at all. New rotors cost $1300. CCB would be a lot more.

My M5 had CCB’s and I loved them. The $8500 up front cost was more than worth it to me. I would have definitely spec’d them if I could.

I don't really care since I never even have the shade open, so I'd never see it in action. |

I was actually excited when we took possession of the car for this specific feature - it spoke to the cool lighting tech nerd part of me. Sadly, the lighting itself is quite underwhelming. It's very mild and frankly only noticeable when it's completely dark. It's also static - I was hoping there might be some animation of lights like in the XM headliner. Definitely the "yawn" award winner on our particular vehicle's options list. |

This was another weird omission from BMW for the US spec pre lci X5M. My understanding is that the rest of the world got it but not us. I would understand it more if the car wasn't built here and there was some parts restraint. The 40i gets it but not the X5M.

Prop another reason BMW didn’t do the CCB for the F95/6. Sunroof lights more important to the overall customer base. Which, what? I want that now too!
And CCB and 6spd.

Pre-LCI has 4 door comfort access tho. I’m gonna miss that with my LCI once I get it.

Oh sick it's the same akebono chinese kits that are super popular on 911s there. Everyone has this exact setup, and it looks like a company did what I wanted to do. I'm guessing cost is going to be $8-9k unless their markup is aggressive, in which case I'd just reach out to my vendor and get it done. Additionally: Totally agreed about the X5M. That and the deletion of the rear seat fold down mechanism is simply unacceptable on a 100k+ vehicle.

Actually they offer few kits. They have one that uses F90 M5 calipers and rotors with their custom brackets. I am giving red stuff brake pads a try before decide to spend $10 K to put that kit together myself
