Should I change to Frozen Black?

X5M Black Sapphire on order with Silverstone / Black Wheels / Black Calipers.

Having serious thoughts on Frozen black any thoughts should I stick or change before I get to Status 150 ?

Cheers.

BSM requires a lot of upkeep. I need to wash the car almost every week to keep it looking good. I'd imagine Frozen black would require less maintenance and looks way nicer 👍🙂.

I would never get a factory frozen paint. There is nothing you can do if it gets scratched.

I suggest keep your BSM and get it fully wrapped with satin PPF. Fully protected and little to no maintenance going forward.

I initially placed an order for a Frozen Pure Grey X6MC and changed it to Individual Color Chalk because of the horror stories I've heard about repairing it.

FWIW, this was the approach I selected.

Hopefully take delivery in the next week or after Christmas. I knew I wanted Frozen but after reading more, it became clear in my eyes that the best approach is BSM with a Frozen (XPEL Stealth in my case) PPF wrap.

TLDR on reasoning:
-Cost is about the same either way
-PPF gives protection
-Mess up washing Frozen paint and you’re done
-Mess up washing Stealth wrap and you have an excuse to re-wrap with another look, go back to BSM naked, or simply correct the damaged portion of the wrap to get back to Frozen look
-If you grow tired of it, just take the wrap off and go back to normal BSM

Everyone “in the industry” who I’ve talked to so far have said this is what most people end up doing and mostly for the above reasons listed.

Makes a lot of sense to me, anyway.

as others have mentioned, for a little more than the cost of Individual Frozen paint, get a glossy paint then have stealth/matte ppf installed. once Frozen paint is marred, game’s over. it won’t look the same again.

Individual paint can also set your scheduled production back approx. 11 weeks

BMW M engineers have told me in the past never to get a frozen color, as it only looks good in the showroom and a pain to maintain. If you change to frozen black it will probably delay your order by moving to new production date further in the new year.

This I would do, not Frozen from factory.
Seen so many guys with Frozen ended up PPF-ing the car with satin PPF.
Kind of defeats the purpose of paying the extra money for Frozen, unless if it is super rare Frozen color.

A friend’s order for M60i in frozen black was dropped from 111 to 047 with frozen black being quoted as the reason. He placed his order in August, got to 111 in November, back to 047 last week… The dealer said, no allocations for any colors from the individual palette (the $5000 choices)

Don’t know if the country of order plays any role (e.g. US being somehow preferred - in which case the color selection has no impact)

Like others have said I definitely wouldn’t order a frozen color. Order it in gloss and have completely covered in stealth PPF. You’ll definitely be happy with the outcome.

there are positives to this:
1) saving money and production delay with BSM instead of Individual Frozen
2) having a choice whether to stay with BSM or change it altogether with ppf, vinyl wrap, or vinyl spray (if offered)

mine is Arctic Grey with stealth ppf and ceramic applied. no regrets as it still looks pristine almost 3 years later

+1 to what everyone said about getting BSM and then installing stealth / matte PPF on it to give it that frozen look. The biggest plus for this is much less upkeep than frozen and it’ll be protected with the paint protection film. This is what I did for the wifeys LCI G20… bought it in white and now having it wrapped in STEK stealth / matte PPF.
