how are experiences with the "normal" M adaptive suspension ? Any regrets not to have chosen the air suspension ? Comfortable enough ?
Thanks.

I also have a 17 Q7 with the standard setup. X5 with 20" wheels and m sport. The ride in comfort mode is smoother and more compliant than the q7.. The ride in sport is firm, a littler more road feel but still comfortable. Overall the nicest ride I've had.

Thanks-thats exactly why I am asking. Coming from a F15 with DHP as well I aspect the M-adaptive (without air without DHP Professional) now for a good compromise. Didn't liked the air suspension too much when I drove it.

The DHP has the same M adaptive suspension as the M Sport from my understanding the only difference is electric anti roll stabilization and 4 wheel steering which are added. If the suspension itself is different I'd like to know. For what it's worth I found the suspension to be softer in sport than my X3 M40i (with M Suspension) was in comfort mode. The X5 rides very smoothly from my limited time behind the wheel

While I get that people are complaining that you can't get DHP on the 40i, I don't think everybody understands that you get adaptive suspension on ALL G05s as a standard feature. I'm not trying to take away the importance of anti-roll, but the base adaptive suspension is pretty darn good.

I agree with you there. Forgot to mention it also has the M Sport differential which does help if you push the car to it's limits (I plan to daily like with my X3 M40i)

The one thing I don't like about my 2016 X5 (without DHP) is steering/car feels wobbly. I actually felt the same if not worse on the 2019 40i base I test drove.

What are your thoughts about Dynamic handling package vs Comfort handling package in this regard? I am looking at a 2019 50i. Thanks.

I love the DHP, it makes the X5 handle very well and certainly nothing like the F15's I've driven. In fact in my limited miles thus far it feels like G01 X3 M40i but a little better and that thing handled exceptionally well for an SUV

And this time it seems to work-coming from a F15 (with DHP professional and air suspension in the back) where comfort modus could be more comfortable.

Thanks. I test drove a 50i with DHP and 40i obviously without. DHP is the real deal...I did not have any of the wobbliness of my F15 X5 or the 40i.

I wonder why the 40i is not available with DHP this year...might be a move by BMW to entice some buyers to go for 50i with essentially legacy engine? Willing to bet DHP will become available for 40i when M50i is out 2020...seems to be available for 40i in some markets currently where 50i is not available.

I want to custom build my X5 50i. Any recommendations on a CA in the Northeast who will do a great deal on a custom order? I'm in the Boston area. Willing to go far for a special deal.

Was the 40i Base suspension or M Adaptive?

I've compared the base, air, and M adaptive suspensions and the M adaptive wins hands down if you are spirited driver. I've heard some comments of how the air suspension in lowest setting and in sport mode can give a similar level of sportiness but in my test drive, it still drove like a boat. Its why i decided to opt out from the Air and get the M adaptive along with IAS.

However, I've never compared a 40i M adaptive to a 50i M adaptve DHP..i'd like to know how much difference there is between the 2....that is, how much difference does it make by adding anti roll bars and limited slip differential.

The DHP on my 50i has the M Adaptive suspension with a few additions elsewhere. Based on this I will say it rides much smoother than my M40i did in all drive modes.

X3?
Yes, I had an X3 M40i the M suspension in that is quite different than the X5. By different I mean it's stiffer than a dead body in sport and a tiny but softer in comfort. On the X5 you get equivalent handling without the body shaking stiffness, at least on my 50i with DHP. I hope this helps

I agree. Drove an X3M40i and an X5 back to back. Big difference in the ride. The X3 drove and handled like an M car. If I was single I'd buy one.

This seems to be the only rational explanation for this omission for US market.

I sometimes miss my M40i but the X5 is so much better in most ways. Yes it's thrilling SUV, I put 17k on mine before trading up. My wife always hated how I'd throw it through the corners but man was it fun! I haven't pushed my X5 yet but I will soon to see how it compares

The engine BMW out in the 50i is a revision not the same exact legacy engine. The specific one is an N63M so yes while the N63 itself is old the revision is not.

I now have 600mi and can say unequivocally that my G05 40i Msport is a better ride than my '16 F15 35i with DHP. The engine clearly is an improvement, but the suspension and ride dynamics are a step above. I don't know what DHP on a 40i would add, but it can't be much and I wouldn't consider it a significant ROI from a ride improvement perspective.
