I found a previous thread saying this is the mild hybrid switch on this forum but the video was no longer available so I couldn’t know if mine is the same sound. Basically this clicking/mechanical moving sound while on a battery maintainer. 2021 X5 xDrive40i. Is this normal? Will this go away towards the end of the charging cycle?

It is normal. Sometimes it will continue and the battery will not get charged, or at least take a very long time and other times it will stop. What helps sometimes is to shut down the electronics before charging.

Thanks. I will try shut down the car completely and lock the doors next time before charging. I’m more worried about unnecessary wear on the parts that make this noise. Are you aware of any? This goes off almost every minute.

No need to worry about that from anything we have seen and not seen.
