Damaged my right side outside mirror

Hello,

I damaged my first time BMW X5 2024 right side outside mirror and can I get replaced with outside shop and not dealership and will it void warranty ?

The dealership is saying they need to program and calibrate mirrors, disable and enable SRS, Calibrate surround view camera, reset electrical all of this and VISUAL estimate cost is 2.9k after dissemble may increase the cost.

Outside shop 13 years in business only does BMW's is saying they can replace the mirror and when asked about calibrate the camera and they said not needed. They have good reviews yelp and google and registered with BBB. 1.8k cost

Experts and who had X5 mirror repaired please advise which way to go ?

Thank you very much.

Depends what's broken. If the whole mirror itself is broken and the whole mirror assembly has to be replaced, it would make sense to get the sensors and camera calibrated. If it's just the outside painted section, then it doesn't.

Are you not gonna just use your insurance to fix it? This is what insurance is for.

Safelite may be able to do the necessary calibration.

I'd go with BMW. There is a lot of tech in these cars and a calibration would make sense.

The mirror while opening it is stopping at the right place but closing when parked is not stopping at the right spot. So the body shop both dealer and outside said have to replace the whole mirror assembly. After seeing the cost of estimate have to go with insurance. But most of the dealers in Dallas have bad ratings overcharging on things not needed. So posting here to hear from the experts and others who experienced any mirror repairs.

Thank you for the response.

Safelight has always correctly calibrated my electronics and cameras after full windshield replacement the first time. Each shop is independent though - like BMW dealers.

I replaced the entire unit. Labor for everything including calibration on a 40i was $175 few months ago, Works like a champ.

This is what you need. $435. This is the right, passenger side, original Alpine white. Didn't need painting. https://www.ebay.com/itm/394958433217 This vendor should have the 2024, just research. Notice it's sold for $399. Oh well.

They're also a rip off charging 3X for the part and 2x for labor, if not more. A monkey can do the calibration.

Thank you very much.
I'd replace it myself, then test the camera features like surround view and right cam view to see if it needs calibration.
