I never seen this battery light on before or I never noticed until last week after the software updated to 2019 .37

Is it normal the blue battery light is on all the time?

Looks similar to what is shown in eco pro mode. When braking you will probably see some difference showing the battery is being charged.

I thought this was an indicator on how much battery charge you have when the auto stop-start kicks in. If the battery drains the auto stop-start will start your car. This tends to happen on hot days more frequently b/c the A/C uses up a lot of the stored up battery.

That is an interesting way to look at it. Honestly my dealer told me it was a charge indicator as you are slowing. I have not used ASS that much to even notice but might check that out.

Your dealer may have misspoke, watch what it does when you are braking and you should see the charging band light up towards the battery signifying the brake energy regeneration is kicking in.

It could be that too. I know on my buddy's 3-series it would show the regenative breaking but when the ACC would kick on it would then show how much battery you have before the car would kick in. Otherwise, what's the point of showing the regenerative breaking?

Why show any of it, it is meaningless in regards to the use of the vehicle. It definitely shows the charging occurring, whether it shows use or not I have not a clue.

Does anyone know if the AC compressor is engine or electrically driven? Does the compressor continue to turn during auto start/stop?

I believe it is electric so it can run while the engine is stopped and also for remote preconditioning with the engine not running.

I've had this in my past 3 BMWs, it's not a new thing. The blue battery/line during coasting is showing energy recovery. For some reason I love seeing it come on.

BMW explains it better than I could in the driver's guide:

"During energy recovery, the kinetic energy of the vehicle is converted into electric energy during coasting. The vehicle battery is partially charged and the fuel consumption can be reduced"

(no $hit to the last part, it only works when your foot is off the gas and brake, I'd hope that my fuel consumption would be reduced just from that Maybe that's why I love seeing it come on )
