Try this, when the car is parked, turn the wheel very slightly to one direction, and you will see the issue live and in action, as the wheel will turn itself back into a neutral position. I used to love driving this car (only had it six weeks) and now it’s just become tasking. So very disappointed in this and the lack of urgency from BMW.
Have any of you who are experiencing this brought it up to your dealer? |

Interesting. I havnt driven the car since it's been really cold out this last week. I'll drive it tomorrow and see if this happens to my 40i M sport.

Mine only has this problem if it sits out in the cold for several hours before driving it. Pulling it out of my heated garage into freezing temps doesn't seem to affect it.

I have the same issue with my car and the dealer just confirmed that it is a software problem and they should have an updated software from the factory within a week or so.

Update: The weather has warmed a bit (above zero) and snow/frost/ice is no longer covering the rear sensors, and the car is no longer behaving erratically. So, this issue is likely derived from cold and/or obstructed sensors.

I dropped it off this morning with the dealer and the SA said they just got an email about this problem this morning with a checklist of troubleshooting steps from BMW. I'll pass along the outcome. |

Most likely they will keep it for about a week as BMW is only working on the fix and software will only be available some time next week.

Just spoke with my SA. He said BMW just came out with an update to resolve the steering issue today, but they would need the car till Monday to have it finished.
I brought it in with several other issues, so I'm not sure if there is any mechanical fix to the steering or if they need time to take care of the other items. |

Same issue here. I just survived the polar vortex in Chicago and the car steering was having a significant twitch issue. Microturns to the left and right. It warmed up significantly today (25f vs -22) and the issue is now gone. It was almost undrivable earlier this week at its worst point.

I spoke to my dealer yesterday. They are aware of the issue and the service manager’s car is doing the same thing. They also indicated an update is coming for this.
Lots of issues here that are pretty aggravating. |

My SA emailed today and said the update won’t be available until end of February.
