My 3/2019.35 software upgrade story

Dealer had my G05 for three days. The primary accomplishment was upgrading software to 3/2019.35. However, it seems things are worse for me, not better.

1. I mentioned the Apple Pay issue. They wrote it up as Car Play. In any event, as soon as I got in the car and placed my iPhone X in the charging tray with Waze active, Apple Pay came up.
2. I was less than one mile from the dealer when I got the first of maybe 5 warnings about "Emergency Cell System Malfunction". I reported on this previously in this thread: https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1598030
3. The weather widget is gone or at least hidden from the main menu. Edited to say that iDrive reboot brought it back.
4. I did not have time to review my settings, but my iPhone showed up connected to the car's wifi but not BT. When I tried to make a BT connection, I got a message about it being connected by Wifi. My trial is almost up so do I now need to disable Wifi to get normal BT connection for my Apple Music, for example? Edited to say I had to repair my iPhone.
5. I noticed I can no longer work on the menu when driving in stop and go traffic. The warning says I must be parked to do such things.
6. They claim the cornering lights are working. I will test this in morning unless the predicted hail storm is in the area. No IRAP session as they thought .35 would do it. Edited to say cornering lights do work.
7. I asked for a KAFAS camera check and they said no problems were found.
8. I asked for their help with OTA map issues, but they could not help. When I got home, I went to Connected Drive but it keeps giving me an error message when I went to do an OTA map update.
9. I complained about the lack of heat in the driver's seat but their test said everything was normal.
10. BTW, I asked about the BMW Advanced Eye 2.0 and then were clueless: https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1600027

I am disappointed and will only start learning tomorrow how many of these things can be resolved without the dealer.

We were just updated to 03/2019.30 2 days ago. So far things are worse for us as well. All sorts of new iPhone related problems. My iPhone 7+ won't stay connected for more than a couple mins, then it disconnects and reconnects. My wife's iPhone 8+ wouldn't stream any music at all this morning or connect to CarPlay, even after deleting and re-adding the phone. Both our phones are running the latest iOS version (12.2). Also, the voice control button on the steering wheel no longer brings up Siri unless CarPlay is active on the iDrive screen at the time.

Really getting frustrated with this. Its starting to bring the overall experience of the X5 way down...which from a driving and comfort standpoint is phenomenal.

Meanwhile my 2018 Chevy Camaro ZL1 has had ZERO issues with CarPlay, music streaming, and Siri control since day 1. Use it every day, not 1 minor issue with either of our phones.

First post, avid reader...

Waited until I had enough issues and background to bring her in. Had to get moonroof seal fixed as there was a kink in the surround causing a leak.

Requested update to latest software (03/2019.35) per this community. Upon arrival, SA said there are no updates. LOL I said there are, please find and load.

I picked it up, and we tested the cornering lights and the guy looking said they came on, but I tested in the garage and it does not look like they come on.

Bads noticed;
1. trip data is gone and no data analysis on the drive home
Still gone
2. BC button useless and cannot adjust right cluster widget (stuck in 'empty/gear' view)
Still gone (however, a new observation is; if you hold down BC for 15 or seconds, a submenu activates with some options - I experimented with all that were selectable and nothing happened).
3. media button and scrolling not active in head up display
Still gone after several reboots of iDrive

Goods noticed;
1. drive actually feels better, tighter steering and straighter tracking (adaptive mode with most intervention nannies off/reduced)
2. all settings and profile attributes carried over from prior version (11/2018.57, build date 2.1.19) with the exception of; information display orientation and page layouts

EDIT: Cornering lights do activate as of this version. Lights activate in reverse with steering angle and also activate while moving forward AND turning (regardless of turning signal). When active, the lights are apparent and gently fade out when they deactivate (not an abrupt on/off)

2 and 3 are a bug. reboot iDrive and it will work fine

I rebooted before I left the dealership. Then drove a few miles and parked, rebooted again and same situation. I will try again though.

Hmmm. Weird. I had my software updated to 03/2019.35 today (was in to the dealer for a bolt through my tire tread). I haven't noticed any of the issues listed above. Not yet, at least. Only weirdness was that I had to set the system back up to use Apple CarPlay by default vs iDrive. I also had to go to notifications settings and turn off a few things (again) like the prompts for Valet.

Not much else changed though, for better or worse. For example, Apple Pay still pops up. Maybe a change for the better - I received a collision alert/warning for the first time when driving in my parking garage (driving in a straight line, same as I always do, one spot - nose dips down - this time it triggered audible and visual warning). Maybe the update improves the collision warning aspect?

I'll report back here anything else that I see as better or worse - but so far, I haven't noticed much difference but time will tell if I get BC issues and some of the other bugs and flakiness...

When they did my update, my SA made me entirely wipe out my phone from the car and the car from the phone then turn the phone off and back on to start completely from scratch. Is that how you did it?

Good luck, it's extremely frustrating when fixing one problem creates a whole bunch more

Wow, reading this thread has me pretty apprehensive about having the update performed just to activate the cornering lights. I don't use an iphone so not worried about the phone issues. My dealer, Sun Motors, seems to be pretty savvy when it comes to the car so I will take a chance and have the update done on April 18. I'll report back on my experience. Appreciate all the feedback from those that have had it done.

My cornering lights work now with .35. This upgrade did not add new driving problems but it certainly did not remove issues that were on my list.

So it looks like nothing but cornering lights got fixed.

Is this a correct assessment of the update>?

I was hoping we'd get some other features. People with assisted driving plus - can we activate traffic jam assist>
We have the same hardware - it is just software correct?

This is great that we finally got a fix to the cornering lights. Now we need the fix to have the laser lights work the way they were designed!

Dealer told me it would take 1.5 to 2 hours. He was right. I waited

Might run mine in - do you think it is worth it? Did you request it or did they want to do it while you were in for other maint?

Took my X5 in today to have the 3/2019.35 update to fix the cornering light issue fixed. I also reported that the "Automatic Time Update" function under date and time would not allow me to check the box to make it automatic. They thought the update would fix that problem too. It did not. The update also broke the Comfort Access - Lock when walking away and unlock when approaching function.

Haven't found any other issues yet.

Note: Dealer said the automatic time update is likely a bmw connect server issue and not a software or hardware issue and that bmw was working on it. Also stated that the new X5's on the lot and another customers X5 has the same issue. I am to check back with them on Monday 4/8.

I got the update today as well, 3/2019.35 - all my settings were retained, I just had to add my phone back to CarPlay. Seems to be working fine, I haven't seen cornering lights working yet but the dealer said my vehicle was not built with them (ie, not equipped). I have the LED headlights, not laser.

I didn't notice anything new and haven't experienced any of the previous issues. I did have one CarPlay disconnect though, so that's still a thing. Is it just me, or did they tweak the dashboard graphics slightly compared to 11/2018.43?

I requested it - I was in for a bolt lodged in my tire (they plugged it). I haven’t used the car enough since to see if it fixes some issues but it seems more stable so far. Apple Pay is still an issue and a few other bugs are still there (media list in the hud initially reflect my selected options but then goes back to listing everything - AM radio, etc). Time will tell if it fixes the BC issues I was seeing.

It DOES wipe out any coding. I used The coding phone app to add back Auto Start Stop memory. I need to reach out to Okee and see if he has been able to find more coding options.

There will be different takes on this, but today when using Waze in the charging tray (and clearing Apple Pay), when a police alert came up it was literally like a phone call meaning that I had to accept or reject it.

In the past the Waze alert would make some noise then tell me that police were spotted. I now changed the setting in Waze to use the phone's speaker so I will have to see if the BT connection transfers to the main speakers and interrupts the music.

Just picked up the car with .35 update.
My Apple Pay still shows up.
A new thing I see is Night Vision widget, I installed it but nothing happened. Maybe at night something might be visible. Will keep posted

Wow, already up to version 45 in a week?! I'm back in the shop to fix the above issues. Will report back when I get it back.
