Well Destroyed It

Destroyed my front windshield today on my home. Large rock came off the top of a dump truck hit and bounced over the car in front of me and BAM!!!! I must say the windshield held up amazing, no glass inside at all. Very impressed. Sadly I did not pull over and recover the rock/concrete piece but it did go off the road thankfully. Already have safelite setting up a time to replace with OEM, which they are actually sourcing from the local dealers. So it might be a couple days but at no cost to me not going to complain. No paint or other damage either.

Enjoy the pics!!!

Glad you and everyone else is fine. If it had to hit something I guess probably the windshield is better than the hood or roof.

It seem like only in AZ!!! I had a buddy had similar target crack!!!
I recently replaced our windshield for my MDX and then next day my wife old 4 had a crack. Nothing as extreme as yours. Glad your okay and the rest of the car wasnt hit!

Please know that even thought AZ law require insurance to include windshield replacements with no deductible, any of these comprehensive claims will make your insurance rate go up. We found that out last month when we purchase insurance for the new x5.

That interesting, I will be sure to keep an eye on that. I can say with the F150 and 3 windshields over the ownership I did not see my rate go up. But will keep eye on it for sure.

yeah, maybe its a recent thing, but ours did by about $100/6 months, all the windshield claims show up on some type of database.

Oh plus, most insurance now will require a separate company to come out to inspect the crack to make sure its not a scam. PIA to get bunch of appts. just to get my glass replaced!

I had this happen with trucks that don't tarp the load. No paint damage is a win.

haha that's everyday here in Texas! I had a golf ball sized rock hit a work truck I was driving (back when I was a field engineer) on a few vehicles. One had the windshield partially cave in! here's a picture of a less severe hit, I'll post the other if I can find it.

UPDATE: No one locally has the 2019 X5 OEM glass so they put an order in and should arrive Wed or Thur next week.

I called my Allstate insurance provider here locally. Asked him about my rate and he explained very well why it cannot be raised without justification.
"You are paying in your premiums for full glass replacement already. Meaning they predict what can happen will happen. Literally that simple. He also told me the only way they can raise rate is due to couple high level reasons, claims in general cannot raise rates."
1. Speeding Tickets, moving violations, and other forums of paid offenses.
2. You are involved in accidents you are cited for.
3. For windshield replacement, the number right now is about 10 within 3 years before rates can change. Meaning you are above the current rate multiplier for replacement.

Keep in mind 1 & 2 are not detailed just general buckets of where changes happen. My rates are not and will not change due to my claim for a new windshield. I'd suggest you look into a new company maybe?

Get clearplex applied to your windshield. Will reduce chances of chips and cracks like paint protection film.

If you have dashcam it would help to get the other truck pay for your damage.

&MGE92; Not sure if you seen the damage but clearplex would not have helped here.

&Hchhuor; True but there is no cost to me. I haven't decided yet which one if I do go with one... Still searching the forums as well as the net for input.

We have progressive, not sure if it’s the same between company’s. Maybe it’s the excessive windshield claims?? We had about 10 claims the last 3 yrs between 2 cars... technically they can’t raise our rates, maybe finding other reasons to raise it? No accidents or citations on either cars. Going to get a quote from Allstate thanks for the info!!!
