Rear ended today
I've owned my G05 for 5 months, and someone rear-ended me today while I was sitting still in traffic. It was a hard enough hit to set off the active headrest but no other airbags. There are now five sensors/alerts going off and the car, while driveable, is not fun to drive with all the alerts and warnings.
I'm super depressed. Will know tomorrow how long it will take to repair, but given all the delays in parts, I'm not confident of anything. I'd just had it hand washed, and I don't even know what to do about the ceramic coating on the parts they'll need to replace. Ugh |

So sorry to hear. People can not drive. They give anyone a license in the US. They were probably texting. Idiots. Hope its fixed to your satisfaction. They should pay for your ceramic coating since they hit you.

Get the body shop to contract with your ceramic coating company and have it part of the repair quote. If the other driver's insurance takes responsibility, your insurance adjuster should approve it (or the body shop can make it happen).
Looks like an easy repair. The head restraint might be the most expensive part of the repair. Sadly. Also don't forget to make a diminished value claim if you own the car. Leases typically aren't eligible.

As disappointing as these accidents can be, any car is still a collection of metal, glass, rubber, and plastic. Health of your family remains much more important. Very relieved that you are OK.
Good shop will fix the car without any trace of damages. The advice earlier to get a quote for ceramic coating is excellent. The other driver's insurance should pay for additional expenses. |

Just a quick update. Car is in the shop. I'm being told two weeks, which is killing me. Very frustrating.
The other person took full responsibility and their insurance is covering repairs and rental, though it looks like their appraisal is already way off. They used a 2018 X5 database for parts and are already trying to use aftermarket parts. The dealer I brought it to for the repair is arguing with the insurance company appraiser on that, and I'm refusing anything but OEM. Lower lift gate is broken. Sensors are all off. One bit of info. Apparently, the cartridge in the headrest is rated for three activations. They mark the cartridge when they reset it. The insurance appraiser asked for my receipt for ceramic coating. Not sure if that will happen without a fight, but at least they acknowledged it was an added expense. So, how does one negotiate or prove a diminished value claim? Heading to urgent care this afternoon to see if this stiff neck is anything serious. |

Your car was worth "X" before you were rear ended...now it is worth 'X-y' after you were rear ended...therefor the diminished value is worth something to you. Bring this up with the adj and don't budge...do some homework. you may need to mention hiring an attorney to have them take you seriously. and btw any personal inj attorney will tell soft tissue in the neck can be painful and get worse with time. you have case for that as well.

I've been hit twice and filed for diminished values both times. Once in NC, and once in MD. Depending on the state, the diminished value guidelines can be very different.
If I recall correctly, some state will not do diminished values. Some states will only do a diminished value payout at the time that you sell your car. The payout will be the difference in the fair-market value of a like car without your damage history versus the fair-market value of your car. This generally results in a lower payout from the insurers, because the difference in diminished value decreases over time, as the car ages. My experiences have both been with a full payment of the diminished value at the time of repair. My first experience, I hired an independent appraiser, who came out, inspected the car after the repair, and drew up documents of the impact to the market value. The documents were submitted to the appropriate insurance company, and they paid out without much protest. The amount was about $3k on top of $14k repairs to a 2010 E92 328, when the car was about 3 months old. The second experience, I did not hire an appraiser. The insurer of the at-fault party sent over a form for me to request a DV claim, as well as some other basic information on the car. They then used a fairly standard formula to calculate my payout. They gave a generous and fair offer compared to my own research, so I decided not to hire someone independent. The amount was again about 3k on top of $17k of repairs to a 2014 E84 X1, when the car was about a year old. Edited to say that both accidents were cosmetic only, no frame damage. If there are serious structural repairs that have to be done, my understanding is that the DV is generally higher, as more potential buyers would balk at the thought of heavier repairs.
