Replacing the gear selector on 2024 x5M60

I'm about to pull the trigger on a new 2024 X5M60, but I can't stand the new gear selector knob that has replaced the standard shifter. I am willing to buy the full shifter assembly (including the dial control, starter button,....) that comes standard on the X5M Competition, but not sure where to find it or if my dealership would do the work to make the replacement.

Has anyone attempted to make this alteration on a 2024 X5 with this new (awful) shifter?

The M60 Competition shifter does not operate in the manner of the old shifters. I listened to a negative review about it on YouTube. I would check it out before making that move.

I thought I’d miss the shifter when I made the move from a G80 to the X5 M60i. I’ve had it just over a week now and am used to the new shift experience and don’t mind it at all.

Some 3 series owners have swapped the LCI mini shifters to pre-LCI shift knobs, and others have done the opposite swap. Some even found it to be plug and play.

https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1963153

But installing an M shifter in a non-M has never been doable AFAIK, so you'll need to install a non-M shift knob if you decide to go ahead.

I miss the glass shifter from my X6 (and M850i). I used to rest my hand on it sometimes.

I thought I would miss it also but do not in the least and prefer the current config. None of these are actual shifters with mechanical connection to the transmission as they were years ago and have become nothing more than switching gear of various shapes and sizes.

No doubt the traditional "shifter" does look better.

I am in the process of the swap from LCI to Pre-LCI as we speak. Pics of old and new below. Running into a problem disconnecting the wires from the harness of the center console/iDrive system now that I have it disassembled. I cant pull two of them out, and wondering if anyone has run into this problem?

Would the M drive logic cause an issue, but assume that it’s the same transmission now that both the X5M and M60i share the S68.

Makes no difference - M shifter won't work plug & play. M60i is the same as any other non-M in that regard.

That’s what I thought, as it would have to be coded to work and BMW has transitioned to closed system with iDrive 8.5 with the new head unit. OP could spend an additional $600/month for the X5M comp with the shifter he desires.

Details of how this was accomplished please. I have a LCI car ordered and really prefer the pre LCI shifter.

Very interesting, I actually like the LCI center console/short shifter better. I find my pre LCI glass shifter in the way and full of finger prints. That said, I would actually like to see the little tiny LCI shifter made out of clear faceted plastic/glass with some sort of light in it as I do like mine at night when it lights up.

Took me a few days to cotton up to it and now I really like it, would not want the one I had in my M50i at this point. Same goes for the expanded display which is very much the industry trend and quite appropriate in these X5/X6s.

Looks so much better than that cheap looking stub of a lever that BMW went to just to save money.

This is very much a matter of opinion. Many other manufacturers are eliminating the fake "shifters" which are nothing more than electrical switching gear. There is really no need for these dildo looking things sticking up out of the console.
Have Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, eliminated these pacifiers to "save money" also?

Reminds me of the old 60's Plymouth Valiant with the push button tranny. If the car isn't a manual shift, I'd rather not have the typical shifter, it just gets in the way and especially now that its just switch gear, I've hit it by accident and so has one of my "banished" passengers
