Is this normal? Seat belt warning sign on for 2nd row of seats

Every time I get into my car and start the engine, I hear this warning sound and the seat belt warning sign for second row of seats even though there's nobody sitting there. After 5 seconds it disappears. I took a picture of this sign - here you can see it. Is this normal? Is there any way I can fix this myself?

First time I see this. I would suggest having the sensors checked - maybe it's picking up a signal that shouldn't be there.

I asked my dealer and they said it was OK. It's just a security check and if no one is sitting in the 2nd row then it goes away. Does it work for you the same way?

I don’t get a warning sound but the little graphic on startup is normal.

It did make a sound and started flashing red yesterday when my wife undid her seatbelt to deal with our screaming baby before I’d come to a complete stop.

It doesn’t warn about the isofix child seat, either the floor support takes enough of the weight so the car doesn’t think there’s an occupant or it’s smart enough to realise that the isofix is in use. Probably the former.

It turned out the warning sound was related to low outside temperature (around freezing point). I guess it's normal that the warning icon shows in the instrument cluster.

I get the same thing, but it looks like the red icon with the person sitting. There's 3, and they seem to go away after driving for a min or so, or maybe after a certain speed. Always thought it was strange, but it's normal.

They show up then go away. Seems the sensors are going through a start up check. Normal.

This is very normal, I get it every day - its nothing.
If you put anything on the back seat, like a blanket or a bag (or anything more than a few hundred grams), then it thinks its a passenger and shows the warning. It disappears in a few seconds anyway. I'm used to it now.

Not sure if it was intended as a start-up check or a reminded to the driver that rear passenger need to buckle up.
Goes away the same time as the Orange light in the Central light console about the seat-belts.

I understand the safety reasons but what's the point of this warning sign if there's nobody sitting there?

Bancroft, Have you ever had a slight dash rattle coming from the passenger side of the dash? I thought it may be my glove box or something in it, turns out its not. It's something above it and I can't figure it out! Just wondering if anyone else has it?

Cszekl: No, but I've had this weird "click" sound when I turn up the radio. I don't think it's the problem with the audio system (Harmon Kardon) though as I only noticed this on some stations/songs.

I get that as well from time to time, but have not pin pointed it yet

So it could be a problem with the audio system after all?

Do you have a child seat installed?

My car always displays this "seat occupation icon" but I thought it was because of the child seats that are installed on the backseat.

Same for me, looks like a default behavior, but I though the prev owner messed up with coding.

I like you're little icon with the car.

Mine just shows five red people with the line through, two large, three smaller - until I fasten my seatbelt, then it is just four. Yours is a bit nicer looking.

Is there some coding available to show the icon with the car and 5 seats with seatbelts as can be seen in the OP's post

i just see the regular seat belt icon at the bottom, 3 for the rear seats and next to it a slightly large red seat icon for the driver and another for passenger if present...

This is the European version of the rear passenger seat belt indicator.
