Audi Unveils Refreshed Q7

Audi has revealed pictures and some details of its refreshed Q7. I've been waiting for this to see how it will compare to the G05. Looks like some minor updates to the exterior, but a complete makeover of the interior with the dual touchscreen setup found in the newer Audi models.

I am curious whether the significantly different interior will go through some growing pains, or whether the underpinnings are similar enough to the existing model that reliability will be good.

What is Audi doing with their designs? That front end is a train wreck. Looks like a bad aftermarket chicken wire grill covering a gaping hole.
How dare the press bring up a larger BMW grill on the X7 or 750i with what abominations Audi is doing.

By growing pains, are you alluding to the numerous G05 electronics-related issues? If so, I suspect Audi has baked in the improvements/enhancements into their planning and testing. Any new technology being phased-in will no doubt present bugs along the way, but my suspicion is that it won't be like the G05 experience.

I have a hunch that BMW caused our problems because they accelerated the G05 to align with the X7 so as to share some leverage between the two vehicles. They certainly could have used an extra year in validation work and saved the current crop of G05 owners a lot of headache!

More than a minor exterior update, it's significant. They want from clean, restrained, modern Audi exterior design to a mess of materials, lines and shapes in the front, sides and back - it looks more wagon-like than before. Gotta love those fake exhausts.

The seating looks oh so nice though.

Yes, that's exactly what I was referencing. I hope you're right.

I'll be interested to see it with painted lowers (says it will only come with S-line) and different colors. I prefer the handsome look of the existing model as well.

I agree the old Q7 looked much more elegant despite the boring design.

There's just something about that upright rear-end (versus the softer, more rounded rear on the previous body style) that I just can't like.

It's no looker, that's for sure. Audi has gone soft after the VW Diesel issue and now doesn't make anything compelling.

Call me crazy, but I like the updated exterior. I still think the X5 looks much better, but the old boring Q7 design was so bad I didn't even bother test driving it. Also, the lack of a V8 was a deal killer for me, but that's another story.

The interior, especially the center console and screens, reminds me a bit of the Range Rovers. And I can't be sure whether I mean that as a compliment or an insult.

I think the exterior still does look better than that whale of a Q8. However, I don't think the exterior, particularly the front three-quarter view, holds a candle to the X5.

As for the interior, I just do not understand this fascination with pure touchscreen + acres of gloss black/glass surfaces. Not only are they a nightmare for smudges and fingerprints, but they're also incredibly dangerous to fully operate when actually driving the vehicle.

Can some supporter of all these touchscreens please chime in on how they're more effective than having a primary controller (with touchscreen redundant screen)?

I didn't like the design of the pre-facelift Q7, but they've gone ahead and made it even worse. It looks way too narrow, long and tall. The interior seems alright, but I cannot stand the exterior.

Fresh exterior update is ok, but it is not what makes the car. From what i am hearing - they are going the way of volvo. No engines, no power to speak off

The car looses to x5 40 before it is even anounced. X5 50 will run circles around it. Amd m50 and x5 m will make sq7 obsolete before they even think about making it

So i guess we are left with Bmw Porshe and Amg to have fun with

Drove a Q7 before getting my F15 (so old style Q7) and it drove like a full size pickup, handled like crap. Drove the current style Q7 before getting my G01, and it still drives like crap. I find it odd since the Q5 drives pretty decently, both base and SQ5. Not sure why anyone would buy one other than the four rings on the grill.

That is the statement of the year with Audi. Just so soft and unaggressive with blah power. Its like Audi wants to be a Volvo. Flashy tail light greetings are what Audi focused on with advertising the new A8 so that kinda sums up their flagship car. My local Audi dealer cant give the new A8 away as their original inventories of A8 are still sitting after 3 months and they slashed the prices considerably.

I have owned Audi's for 30 years and my wife currently has a new A4. Audi is neutered as not to compete with brother Porsche in the family pecking order. Audi has become not relevant in my universe.

I think the Q8 looks good But with the engine choice it’s like buying a Urus with a Volkswagen run of the mill family sedan engine. If instead it came with a de-tuned Urus engine the Q8 would be a pretty attractive package for those looking at stylish high performance SUVs but with the V6 it’s just sooo wrong.

The entire group of audi US corporate morons should be fired today. This old underpowered supercharged v6 engine in the current Q7 is a joke here in the US. Give us a damn audi sq7 or rsq7 that has some balls under the hood. I guess Audi isn't even trying to make something to compete against the X5m or Gle63 amg and just conceded.

Interior looks nice. Exterior, well they didn't have much to work with. Went from mini-van to station wagon.

I love how Audi has been saying for years their RS lineup is as going to include more SUV's but that promise hasn't come true. My SQ5 was pretty fun, not as engaging as my X3 M40i but I don't think any of their cars are 'good' these days.

Pretty minor refresh, still looks dated to me. As much stuff as they throw into that grill, the front end still resembles an A6 circa 2012 for me. Audi, it's time to get some new vocabulary in your design language.
