Thumbs up 11.2019.40 is the current software for the iDrive7 G05 X5 for the USA. 1st service.

I just wanted to report as of the date 12-31-19, the current iDrive 7 firmware update is 11.2019.40. My 2019 X5 50i M-Sport went in for its first routine service since new. No issues other than software bugs from my original Nov 2018 software I was running all year. Other than the occasional need to reboot the iDrive, it was pretty stable. Fast forward and there was a host of updates and upgrades to the iDrive7 over the year.

I am pleased to report I had no issues after the update. My GPS was accurate but I had to reorient the apps as they went back to their factory position. Many new looks and apps. Voice command worked faster.

“Caring Car” (spa mood mode Relax, Invigorate) all worked well and was kinda neat. These two programs have their own music. The other feature is called “Experience Modes” These have similar functions to set a mood without pre set music. They will adjust everything including the sunshade but I have yet to see the sun shade close on its own. Everything else from climate temp, massage, ambient lighting all change.

A over-the-top luxury feature “just because” we can.

The entire iDrive feel and response is better and refreshed. It will take me some time to notice all differences.

I noticed right away I now have a “Carbon Black” X5 matching my vehicle in the back-up camera. (No more ghost grey X5)

My dealer and service staff were excellent in we all discussed the various concerns I brought up to them with the iDrive7 from reports from the forum. They haven’t seen some of the issues reported on the forum but I am my dealers field tester apparently since I am one of the first car guys to own one and learn the ins and outs.

Cornering lights now work as described just by turning of the wheel in that direction. Your wheel must turn past the point in the pic below for them to activate. No turn signal is required. The cornering lights start to fade off almost when the wheels are back to strait.

A entire list of recalls and updates for my vehicle was performed from replace fresh air intake duct, rear camera, oil change, etc... 5 pages of tasks to be performed. It took a total of 4 hours in the service center. This was what a year of G05 accumulated since my X5 never was back to my dealer in one full year. Not bad IMO.
On the ride home, I swear the vehicle felt even faster??? Could be the pedal position sensor was reset. It was like a beast was given a red bull.

Unfortunately the weather was rainy and sleeting. My dealer has a standing order to “NEVER” wash any of my vehicles. My last task of 2019 was to wash the X5 when I got home last night.

Good to know about the Turn Signal activating the Cornering Lights. Did the update give you the Advanced Drive View feature? Are you able to set the heated steering wheel in the Climate Rules? I pretty much have most of what you described with 07/2019.55.

I have climate rules for heated seats and ventilated seats with adjustable temp triggering for both. What is Advanced Drive view?? I may already have that.

I have the seats as well in the Climate Rules but some guys have coded the ability to control the steering wheel as well. I don't have the Advanced Drive View but this is what it looks like

ADV is in pics below. You won't have it on MY2019 on 11/2019.40, at this point it has to be coded. And I might be wrong, but I think ADV stands for Assisted Driving View rather than Advanced, not that it particularly matters so far.

Auto heated steering wheel below set temp also has to be coded.

Are you sure cornering light comes on with turn signals? Don't think that's the case in G05, there is a huge war-level thread here recently revived to duke that out.

Lol. Yes, the Corning Lights thread has gone into battle.

I am incorrect: You dont need the turn signals for the cornering lights to operate. I will take more pics today.

Yus, I can confirm that is the identical behavior on mine. When the vehicle is at a standstill and turn signal is on, it won't activate until the steering wheel is turned as not to blind vehicles or pedestrians on the left or right.

Just confirmed what activates the cornering lights:
I just did this test in my garage with engine running.
You do not have to activate the turn signals. Just turning the wheel to the position in the pic below will turn on the cornering lights. Your wheel must turn past that point for the cornering lights to activate. The cornering lights will fade off as the wheel straitens out to the point below in pic.

The cornering lights are rather effectively bright.

I believe that the cornering lights are only available on vehicles with Laser Lights. Does your vehicle have Laser Lights or just the standard Adaptive LED lights?

I was recently updated to 07/2019.55 and my cornering lights do not come on whatsoever. It was working perfectly fine prior to the update. It used to turn on whenever the steering wheel is turned past a certain point, like Mystros said. The turn signal has no effect on it's function.

But now, they're not working with or without using the turn signal. It's not critical enough for me to leave my car at the dealership for half a day, so blah. It's just annoying that "updates" which are supposed to fix things, have only made things worse (i.e. the back-up camera not switching to front view when ignition is in Drive).

I'm on the same version, got my car in May 2019, but has no issue for both versions of iDrive (see signature). I have laser lights in mine as well.

I really don't get the new cornering lights. The whole purpose of the lights is to see the corner when you have the turn signal on (this is how it works in my F10). You want to see the corner before you turn into the corner.

Thoughts?

In driveways and parking lots most don’t use their turn signal at every low speed turns. This is especially true in rural communities. BMW views this as a “while you are driving” feature instead of “before you pull out” feature. At this point, since we have the most advanced headlights currently made, working cornering lights are the last check mark we were waiting for.
I was initially skeptical of how effective they would be, but these ones do put out a lot of light directed to the sides of the vehicle.

I think the difference in the logic is due to the height of the cornering lights in the G05. This way they are not on all of the time shining into the eyes of a driver next to you when there are multiple turning lanes or shining into cross traffic while waiting to make a left hand turn.

Here is another perspective on what the Cornering Lights cover. My G05 was missing the Corning Lights upon delivery. I had them do a software update a while ago prior to me getting the 07/2019.55. In the 07/2019.55 is when I got Experience Modes, Caring Car and the Climate Rules.

The X5 is in the shop today to fix the continuous "search for software update" that has been going on for close to 3 weeks.
