Digital Key stopped working

I have 2023 X5 45e. I use digital key from my phone often but it seems to stop working. Usually it pops up automatically when I take my phone to the drivers side door handle and it is not happening anymore.

Same with hands free trunk open.

Anyone experiencing same?

I found you have to use the bottom half of phone to the top part of the door handle sensor because that is where the phone sensor is. If you use a key card you have to put it in the center of the door handle for it to work.

Try using the bottom 1/3 of the phone near the top of the door handle.

Have you looked at your Wallet to see if anything about the Digital Key changed? does it still show as active in your MyBMW app? what troubleshooting steps have you taken, if any?

Mine worked very well with XS. When I switched to 13, it does not work the same anymore. To have it to work, I need to bring out the “apple wallet”. It doesn’t sense the phone as they say anymore.
The kick you need to kick right under the logo. Rather fast enough movement. I had random openings at the beginning but once you figure it out, it will work everytime.

I have been using these features for quite sometime and well versed with the operations. It’s not that I am setting new. I got the knack also to open the trunk.

I removed the digital key from wallet from tried to set from scratch. I am following the exact instructions I.e having both keys in the cars, start pairing and place the phone in Wi-Fi tray. And I get the error “Error Acricating the device” see attached photo and the pairing stops. It’s frustrating.

MyBMW app did just update 2d ago, version 3.3.1. might have something to do with it? send app feedback.

mine works without issue. iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 16.4

Could be. I also restarted idrive but no luck.
Now updating iphone to 16.4. Not sure it’s a good idea but I don’t see any other option. .

Got it working. I had to reset digital key under cars->settings->doors/access->digital key->reset function.

Then started the whole Bmw digital keg setup from app. Then linked the digital keg under drivers profile. All works fine.

In the process I upgraded to iPhone 16.4 but it has nothing to do making it work.

Now working on the auto trunk opener.

what exactly is the issue you’re having with the tailgate?

I've noticed the Digital Key problem after updating to iOS 16.4 as well. It's like it reduced the sensitivity to the point where the phone has to be physically touching the door handle before it will unlock. Previously it could be an inch or two away.

This kinda sucks the usefulness out of the entire feature--I'm not going to bang my iPhone on the handle every time I want to get in the car.

I never thought to test how far away it could activate. in 2 years, I lightly rest my iPhone on the handle; no banging involved whatsoever

In my 2023 45e I have to slightly contact with the door handle.

I think it has to physically touch the door handle. I have also noticed this when I use other apps that use similar technology. For example, to pay for a parking meter in my city, i have to physically touch the phone to the parking meter or it doesn't read it. Which is gross by the way. The meters are alway dirty.
