"Hey BMW" - unusual commands?

I really like the BMW's Intelligent Personal Assistant. I have now taken to amusing myself by asking it different questions to see what it can do and how well the natural language interpretation works. Here are some of my favorites.

"Hey BMW"

- "My butt's cold". Will turn on the driver seat heating to level 1
- "I'm getting tired". Will trigger the caring car vitalize program. I.e Blows cold air on me and blasts me with music.
- "Set the fan in the rear to level 1". Turns down the fan which sometimes decides to blast when I start the car.

What other gems are there? "My butt's cold" is my favorite so far. Did not expect a response. :-). I wonder if you can say "My back is killing me" and get the massaging seats to start?

Just the fact that you have to know 'the commands' makes it for me a useless gimmick.

+ Just pushing the actual button is x times faster than going through the pain of finding the correct command/sentence (and making the kids shut up in the meanwhile)

I agree... until those systems become really 100% intelligent and can actually hear you the 1st time the button always wins. And even if they were perfect... some things are just quicker/easier accomplished with a button than verbalizing them. Unless you have code words/phrases that short cut things, but then we are back to having to know the code words...

Being able to shut off the climate fan in the rear is nice. Certainly not an easy button to get to (I have tried that whilst driving :-)

Please note that I came from F15 which had hard buttons for almost everything. The hard buttons for the climate control in G05 turned me off completely from buying another BMW personally after a few weeks into taking delivery of the vehicle. However, I quickly learnt that the voice command to turn up and down the heat/AC is much easier and quicker than using the hard buttons sometimes.

This is the biggest problem with it. The lack of a clear and comprehensive list of commands means you’re left stumbling in the dark to out what the system can do…

I get that they no longer want to publish those lists as they don’t want us to see it the same as “voice commands” where it was just straight phrases we say, but the system is not 100% natural or intuitive. So you end up not knowing about probably 90% of what it can respond to.

Especially in iDrive 7 “Lite” cars where the lines are really weird. I can’t turn on the seat heater with the IPA, but I can turn on the massage seats… At least it is smart enough to know who is asking so it turns on the right massage seat!

Don't you just turn the rear fan off/on with the climate menu button in the middle of the climate island? No need to try and find a button on the rear climate controller.

Yep, esps when your kiddo set to max A/C. I do find Hello BMW useful in some other cases... "Go home" "Call ..." are the ones I use most. My kiddo likes to change ambient lights so that works out good too.

You don't have to know the commands, you can just speak as you would to any person.

The thing is, like Belgians , sometimes the car doesn't know idioms and/or how to interpret something that's not an actual command.

E.g., "my butt's cold" is a statement of fact, not a command; nevertheless the vehicle is smart enough to translate that fact statement INTO a command.

OP could've said, "hey bitch, turn on my seat warming to level 3 or imma fuck you up" and that would've worked too.

i concur too...esp when it's just my 5yr old and i in the car and i should crank up the ac a bit more in the back...my only solution is to do the full sync of the ac system...so this might be a neat party trick.

Terribly difficult! I've set a shortcut just for this... and still requires an extra 2 clicks since it won't allow a direct shortcut into the second row seat toggle...

Maybe I should try the voice command next time.

I'm back and need to ask... does anyone know the voice command to turn on and off second row air conditioning? I've tried several alternatives and couldn't find one that works. when I said "turn on/off rear/second row seat air conditioning" it just turned on/off the whole air conditioning system, not just the rear.

Any experience? Was hoping to avoid the need for the shortcut button mentioned above.

I have tried several inappropriate questions and some seem to have funny pre-canned responses.

Also, hearing the car give you a flat, almost disgusted sounding "No" to an inappropriate question is also fun, cause you just know someone took the time to think of the same question back at BMW HQ and program that "No" answer as opposed to the car saying it didn't understand what you said.

Next time I get in the car I am going to try what you did. My juvenile sense of humor will likely love this stuff.....

Synchronise? That would just synchronise the temperature and fan settings of the front passenger doesn't it?

I'm looking to turn on or off the air conditioning ventilation in the second row of seats only without changing anything in the front row...

I may be missing something but it is very easy to turn the rear seat ventilation on or off. Just hit the menu button in the middle of the climate island. Then hit heating/ventilation and turn the rear on or off.
It turns the rear on or off and does not change anything in the front row.

In some countries, you can say Merry Christmas and you'll get a nice animation and response. Not in the US. You can say Happy New Year too and will also get an animation and response.
