BMW Autonomous Driving - preview of some future features
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com These are not production ready, but I thought they might be interesting to get a feel for where BMW are going with the autonomous driving strategy. The codes currently state a dependency on i-step 07/2020 so that could be indicative of a target release date? The 'emergency lane during congestion' made me chuckle. I know its meant as a safety feature but it does appear that BMW really do want its drivers to own the road Last edited by archivedaccount; 09-17-2019 at 01:32 AM.. |

If I was not getting ready to start 3 back-to-back trips, one of which is a long, demanding international trip, I would leap into the code factory and try to understand the possibilities.
But are you also saying that even BMW might pass this on to 2019 if we have the right hardware?

Did you test any of them, or just enable the features? Is yours a MY19? (I know it's different in Europe, but I'm referring to a MY19 US equivalent)

Yes, as long as the hardware is supported, BMW can rollout these changes with the i-step upgrades. Potentially even OTA if that ever becomes a thing.
The cynic in me thinks they might hold certain features back for marketing purposes - 'buy a new model and get XYZ new features'. That's certainly been the traditional model, but with the intended adoption of OTA updates, maybe they will start enabling software configurable features. Edit: Interesting article on the TL detection. It states that the X5 has the required hardware, and support might be rolled out OTA: https://www.engadget.com/2019/06/25/...TnKQd8F87BuIQo Last edited by archivedaccount; 09-07-2019 at 09:01 AM.. |

Sometimes I can't even get production released CarPlay to work right, never mind trusting the car to stop at a Red Light Mine is a MY19, originally on 2019_03.35. These are all really new features/codes. They haven't even been fully mapped in Launcher Pro, which was last updated with fdl mappings in 2018. If TM can update Launcher Pro to map against the latest i-step/psdzdata we'll get an even better picture of what goodies are around the corner. |

I think this system will work on cameras so in theory should work in most scenarios and regions. Some more info here:
https://www.engadget.com/2019/06/25/...ic-light-demo/ i've given TM a nudge. Maybe if he gets a new BMW he will become incentivised to unlock some newer features |

With all the software bugs and glitches in the iDrive system, I'm surprised anyone would trust using this system when it rolls out unless it has been EXTENSIVELY tested by BMW.
