Exclamation 2024 50e engine problems poll

It seems like there are multiple threads going on regarding the new 50e check engine light being on within weeks of delivery.

And it seems like most of them are related to some sort of A/C shut off valve. I’m starting a poll trying to see how frequent is this issue. Any additional input will be greatly appreciated.

No worries, thanks for notifying in this thread.
Given the volume of the vote I did not expect to get anything statistically significant anyways. Also there is selection bias involved and the data is probably skewed. But from what we have so far it seems like this issue is relatively wide spread. Hopefully we get some official response from BMW soon.

Thanks for starting the poll!

For folks who had check engine light or issue, would it be possible to leave a comment on what issue has been identified, and any update from the service center.

Thanks

Mine was the refrigerant valve issue for cooling the high voltage battery as discussed in the aforementioned thread.

Mine was for error code P2EB8 -- which seemed to be something related to the 48V system, but no clear definitions online. Also seems that code appeared on other models -- e.g. the X7 -- based on some quick searches of these forums.

The dealer consulted with BMW NA, reset it, drove it 40 miles, and declared it a-okay. Not confidence-inspiring, but the light hasn't come back in two weeks. I'm curious about the error code for this more serious issue. Might anyone know?

All with in 1 wk / first 600 mile

They are replacing the charger module on mine first. Hopefully that is the only thing wrong with it.

Please fix your poll question!!! It’s not about engine problems but check engine light which in most cases has nothing to do with the actual engine!

I doubt 50e has a 48V system. This is a mild hybrid system used on non-PHEV X5s.

So for the 50e it’s 50/50 toss up if you will have headaches to deal with for a brand new vehicle.

Most likely there is a 48V bus in place for select ECUs and functions such as engine stop/start. The difference would be that the 48V bus is likely supplied not from a small 48V battery pack but from the HV pack by way of a DCDC. This would allow the automaker to reuse some electronics from the other vehicles.

Can you let us know the problem and resolution? This thread oddly stopped abruptly.

We have some many thread on this and this poll would be meaningless due to forum bias. The 50e data poll which eliminates the forum bias gives a a better idea but of course is still a very small sample.

As far as your question goes, the root causes of the issues still have not be found from what we have seen. Some CEL's go away by themselves, some with a software update and others need parts replaced. We have seen some come back in all three instances.
