My solution to wireless charging

Bought a magsafe (black) on Amazon, shorten the cord.

Phone (iphone 14pro) still heats up, but not as much. I think it is the bluetooth protocol implementation in BMW that impacts the heating. On my previous 2021 Acura RDX I had implemented the same solution, and the phone was never hot even after hours of driving.

What I like about magsafe-based solution is that the connection is very secure, and the phone does not slide around in the oversized tray. Someone should make a commercial product (e.g. an insert into the existing tray) for it!!! I'd easily pay $60 for it.

Do you use digital key capability with the MagSafe there? I have MagSafe Mount in center screen area. I was thinking if I have to go through thr trouble if MagSafe, I want it at the most convenient place, which is not in that hole.

Perhaps people having trouble charging are using a cellphone case causing the issue. I have a wireless compatible cellphone case.
My S20 got pretty warm so I used a cable for that one. But my S23+ seems to charge just fine wirelessly and doesn't get hot. I always run android auto with navigation and music. My case is a Spigen Tough Armor

On F15 wireless charger did heat the phone while using waze, etc but the phone was charged when used lightly like for music. On G05 LCI now it just heats up even if not in use and doesnt really charge.

I just did the same thing. Thanks for the great idea. Now I just need to figure out the best way to keep it held down. I don't want anything too strong that I can take it out without damaging it.
BTW, I had an aftermarket one in my first X5 but missed the storage. Too many glasses to keep in the car between me and my wife. The price of getting old I guess.

I'm going to be doing something similar here soon although not mainly for the heat. I took a 4 hour trip recently and when I got there, my phone had less charge on it then when I left. I had it connected to Android Auto and Google maps open, but no directions, music, streaming, etc... Just had the maps up to see active traffic and get phone notifications. Its fine with city trips and all I guess, but losing almost 20% battery sitting on the wireless charger and just having Android Auto connected.....thats a poor charger.

How much power

Do we know the power output in wattage from the charing pad and USB-C ports? For the life of me I can't find spec for what is being delivered to the phone.

My iPhone 15 Pro Max does not get hot on the wireless charger, it’s barely warm. It’s in an Otterbox MagSafe case. I’m reading many complaints about the phones getting hot. Interesting…. So many different experiences with these cars.

Ok, it doesn't get hot but does it charge your phone to any real degree? Sure it won't charge it as fast as Apple's 20w wireless charger but when you leave it on the cars pad, say for a half hour, what additional % are you getting?

Mine just gets hot and only gives it about a 3% additional charge when leaving it on the pad for a good half to three quarters of an hour. I simply stopped using it. I've got a 12 mini with a very thin case but when I put mine on my 20 wireless Apple charger, it doesn't get hot at all and it charges lightning fast.
