What kind of M Sport exhaust does the 40i get with the M Professional Package?
Does it sound much better than the stock non M Professional Package unit?

Sounds much better inside during acceleration. Slightly better on startup from the outside; quiet inside. My neighbor asked if I had an M spec car when I pulled out of the driveway (I have x40i w the M sports pro package), so it must have made some nice impression. But if you like the other pieces of the M sports pro package, you’ll notice the cost of the upgraded exhaust is free. I definitely needed to have the black shadowline grill so it would match with the window trim. The M professional package was a no brainer.
