what PSI are you guys running?

Stock Tires

Door Jamb says 36 in the front 39 in the rear.

My BMW & Dealership say 38 in the front 42.1 in the rear.

I'm confused.

I would always go off the door with the OEM tires. I keep mine at 36 and 39 or a pound less for better ride quality.

34 and 38 for the PS4S in AZ. If you overinflate, you will eat the centers of your tires.

I do door -3 psi for more grip (less air pressure provides a larger contact patch) and more comfort.

Generally tires are overinflated at factory to prevent flats if car is stored and not sold quickly. Problem is dealership - they simply didn't check pressure before delivering car. It happened to me once.

Roads here are crap so I tend to run higher pressure to prevent tire bubbling and rim damage from potholes. 38F and 40R.

That is where the ride quality its tolerable. The issue is when the weather/temp fluctuates it changes the tire pressure enough to have an impact. My 38/40 setup turns into 41/43 on a hot day where it feels like its riding on rocks for tires. 36/38 is ideal for comfort for me.

Thought I’d comment here because I’m still sort of confused.

Just took delivery of a 2024 X5MC. Traded my 2021. On delivery front was inflated to 35, rears 39. I believe this is aligned with what’s on my door. TPMS keeps yelling at me. I’ve reset a million times. The pressures it reports are correct, but it’s telling me to run 50 PSI…which is max pressure for the Michelins.

So I have the M Drivers pkg. I did something rather astonishing today…I opened the manual. Yes, deep breath…I actually did it!!!

In the manual it states two different pressures for M Drivers Pkg vs non-M Drivers Pkg. The pressures the system is asking for match the MDeivers Pkg specs.

I’ve never heard of this until this evening. Furthermore, I’m surprised the dealership made the same error.

Thoughts? Thanks.

Ofttimes, the dealership inflates to arbitrary ‘safe’ pressures. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten my car back from service with all tires at 32psi, completely different from the door jamb!

it pays to read the manual. sadly, it’s obvious that some techs don’t, so you’ll be better armed about what’s right for your car than they will. you are your own advocate cuz they won’t be looking out for you.

that said, peruse the following thread on tips how and when to properly set your tire pressures:
