So my sales dude said that there's no point to order yet since they don't have allocations. I guess it's not a popular car in my area. There is a waiting list for the x7 though.
When will custom colors come out? Is bw speakers an option? |

A charger does not come with the vehicle. A charging cable does for plugging into 120v outlets.

The max would be 32 according to what was posted.

https://www.aptiv.com/en/insights/ar...vels-and-modes the charging cable included with the vehicle is a Level 1 device (110/120V) that everyone can use on their household outlets. the drawback is that it's slow. it may be ok for some, such as retired folks or those who WFH. doubling the power at the same amperage cuts the charging time in half, so many folks install a Level 2 device in their homes (220/240V). while the charging rates may appear the same (16A, 32A, etc), the charging time is reduced depending on the voltage. for example, to charge the 45e's 17kWh battery: 16A @ 120V takes ~11h 16A @ 240V takes ~5.5h charging at Level 3 and 4 doesn't apply to a home setup. NOTE: many refer to the charging cable as the "charger", but that's technically incorrect. the 50e's 7.4kW charger is actually inside the vehicle. maximizing its charging power depends on the voltage. if i had the 50e, it would actually charge a little less than 32A because my voltage is 247V. using the formula above: 7.4kW (7400W) divided by 247V = 30A if i had exactly 240V, then it would charge at 30.8A. even though 240V x 32A = 7680W (7.68kW), remember that the 50e's charger is capped at 7.4kW which explains why it won't charge exactly at 32A with a 240V Level 2 device. Not all dealers want to deal with waiting lists but it sounds like from your earlier post your dealer has one for the X7 so they might as well for the X5. It could be they don't want to yet because they are waiting to see the demand and figure out their pricing.

I was told that the charging cable in the e50 comes with two pigtail cables. One fits into a standard 110V outlet or you can change the pigtail on the cable to plug into a 240V NEMA 14-50 outlet. Is that not the case??

That is currently not the case but that could have changed with the 50e. We would have to get more info but the cable likely won’t allow charging at the full 32amps (max for the 50e from what has been posted).

Aka Mid cycle refresh/redesign Btw Tesla mobile evse are also max rated for 32 amps, those can have swappable adapter for 110v or various 240v adapters. It comes w Nema 5-15 adapter (normal household plug) Household plus rated max 15 amps but function at 12 amps (80%) 12 Amps x 110 = 1,320 watts or 1.3kW With Nema 14-50, max 50 amp rating, 80% can pull 40 amps But Tesla mobile connector is still limited to 32 amps (Tesla also sells nonswappable connector w 14-50 plus that can pull 40amps but it’s been out of stocks for months) 32 amps x 240 volts = 7.68 kW If the evse that comes w bmw can pull 40 amps 40x240=9.6 Kw Not sure if 50e will also have same cable as iX If 50e can only handle 7kW it’ll have to pull less amps. I personally slow charge a car anyways… it if over night I have 12 hours of cheaper tiered rates, I can manually decrease amps, such that I can have whatever percent I want by the morning. Slower charging battery is also better for long term, less heat generation Last edited by Bmwx5z; 02-26-2023 at 05:52 AM.. |

40x240=9.6 Kw Not sure if 50e will also have same cable as iX If 50e can only handle 7kW it’ll have to pull less amps. According to the BMW pricing guides, both the iX and the 50e come with the same 4T3 Flexible Fast Charger. |
