Adjustable 2nd row?

As you’ve possibly seen in other threads I’m debating a few changes to my spec before the build is locked.

One thing I’m unsure about is whether or not the 2nd row has any adjustability if the 3rd row option is not spec’d?

The BMW genius guy seemed to think this was included with the comfort pack, but from what I’ve read that doesn’t seem to be true?

Can anyone confirm?

Thanks
MP

No it is not part of the comfort pack.

Only available with 3rd row.

At least in Belgium it is. But I think this is everywhere.

Thought as much. Thank you.

I find that really frustrating with BMW. A lot of the time I know more than they do.

Is the 3rd row option worth it based on that?

I have a 45e so 3rd row is not available anyway.

Do you sit a in the back a lot?

I personally don't, but the family do and we often cart them about at weekends. Our current Range Rover manages it well, albeit with only 5 seats.

It will probably depend on the age / length of your children. Mine are 9 and 10 and it is fine with fixed second row.

I have read in some treads here that is you need 7 seats frequently the x7 is better.

Correct. The only way to have an adjustable 2nd row is to order X5 with 3rd row. And yes, 3rd row is not available on 45E or with 2VW M professional suspension.

3rd row in X5 is excellent option if you only occasionally need extra seats. My kids love it. Very cool to be able to pickup their friends from school or even extra adults from airport or something. Added bonus is adjustable 2nd row. However, you loose spare tire or some space in the trunk.

I would say:
- if you are family of 5 (max) and would like to have a choice to sometime carry extra passengers > go for X5 with 3rd row.
- if you are family of 6-7 > check out X7.

Very sound advice. Thanks for the steer!

So does having the adjustable 2nd row increase leg room when it’s all the way back, or just return it to normal specifications?

I'd like to know this as well. I would never have considered the 3rd row option alone but if that means I can adjust the 2nd row to have more room than normal then that would change my plans...

As far as I know, no.

I've always understood it as the 2nd row pushed all the way back will give you the same legroom as if you didn't have the 3rd row option. The adjustable 2nd room simply allows more room for the 3rd row occupants by pushing the 2nd row up. One advantage though is the ability to recline the 2nd row.

I think that is correct. I do feel the recline has more angle than if you had a non-adjustable 2nd row but I can't say 100% since I don't have 2 X5's side by side to compare.
