Compilation of % off of MSRP data and successful use
I posted in the general forum asking members how much they paid off of MSRP before incentives for an M50i order in the US
This is what I got: 6.3%, 8.5%, 10.8%, 10%, 8%, 9%, 10.5%, 10% Range: 6.3% to 10.8% Average 9.2% I used the data and emailed three dealers I was working with and shared the data points and said best offer 10% and over gets the deal. One dealer offered 1% (guess they didn’t have an allocation or they are idiots), another offered 9% and my preferred dealer offered 10%. I took the 10% and got an additional 3k in dealer cash. As always data is king. Thanks to everyone who shared data points. I hope this is useful to others. |

I would guess it's mostly local market forces driving % discounts. I live in a tough market for discounts I had to go an hour away to get a 10% off plus incentives discount on my m340. It was a higher volume dealer. Yes I used lots data to arrive at my choice

1) It varies by region, 10% is "okay" in specific cities but 7% is great elsewhere
2) doc fee varies by state, some states don't have any regulation on it so it can vary within the state 3) As mentioned, rebates need to be treated separately |

So what I queried and what I got was 10% off of MSRP exclusive of any rebates or things normally direct to the buyer. There was a 3k dealer cash for cash deal incentive that I got as well in addition to the 10%.
From my research I think it’s a good starting point for negotiations. In my home town we have very big dealers and a small one. My impression is that the bugger the dealer the more room they have. |

These discounts can vary depending on inventory levels and other factors that can vary from month to month. Also, a dealer can be more inclined to give bigger discounts to people they have a relationship with.
