Canada Tracking for New Vehicles

Hello everyone, I placed an order for 2024 X5 xDrive40i on April 13th from a Toronto dealership. It’s been 3 months now and finally I’ve been told vehicle is on the train. I’ve been asking my Client Advisor for rail car number, production number, Vin no. You name it, I’ve asked it all to track my vehicle. Till this day, the only detail I have about my vehicle is a quote #. My question, are dealerships not providing Vin no. to customers till the day of collection? Secondly, what is the proper method of tracking a new vehicle nowadays? The reason behind this urgency is the interest rate offers which are applicable only for vehicles taking delivery in the month of July. I would be saving almost 3% in interest!!! I also called BMW Canada and the women’s only response was to “ask the dealer”. Even if anyone can help me here, the only detail I can provide here is the quote # and packages on the vehicle.

The dealer should be giving you your production number and/or VIN. BMW Canada now has a tracking page but of course it won't give you location details after it has been dispatched from the factory.

I received my VIN as soon as it entered production.
They should definitely have that by now.

Also, that 3% you refer to is for in stock vehicles at dealership only?
I may be mistaken on that, but that’s what I understood from promotion.

As long as the vehicle is available for dealership to make a Sale/Delivery in July, the offer is valid. I was quoted 7.49% in April, and July offer is for 4.99%. I doubt BMW Canada will bring this offer for August because the interest rates recently went up again.

In the US your dealer can lock the current rate with a credit application even if it’s August delivery.

Ordering from Edmonton

I got a sheet from my dealer. One everyone should be able to access even if a VIN is not produced. On the top it had a production number.

No reason they shouldn’t give that to you. Then you can use TrackMyBMW online to see where it stands.

Update: I was able to receive Vin no. For the vehicle and online tracking system says “in transit”. I called BMW Canada and they said they don’t have access to files in order to track exact location of the vehicle. Back in 2019, I was able to track the vehicle with the rail car number provided by BMW Canada (all BMWs from Spartanburg get transported through Norfolk Southern Rail).

FYI, mine took almost 3 weeks from stating in transit until it arrived at dealer.

Now at dealer with stop codes for the last week. I’m an hour from Toronto.

Yes, unfortunately we can no longer track our vehicle after they are loaded on the rail cars but once it arrives at the Auto Compound in Concord, On you can track it on the Hansen's Vehicle Relocation website.

Just type in your entire VIN numbers and add the postal code for your dealership and click Track button. https://www.lhf.com/vehicle-tracking

I checked every few days and each time said "Record not found". Then finally after 11 days mine arrived and I was able to get consignment details on Hansen's tracking system and its ETA to the dealership.

Below is a screen shot of mine info from the Hansen's website.

Three days later it arrived at my dealership however the Track my BMW app still showed it "In Transit" for several more days.

Congrats on your new ride and I hope this helps you track it.

Could you elaborate regarding the stop codes? Anything I should be discussing with my dealer? And which models are affected? Thanks!

Probably means it cannot be delivered until updates are completed.

Welcome to the forum. You can use your production code and then it should display the VIN.
