Stop Start with Bimmercode on X5M

Hi Guys, although being on Bimmerpost for some time I've just picked up a Marina Bay Blue X5M comp and so far loving it.
My second M, the previous was a Monte Carlo Blue M3 Edition (E92)

Starting with a question on the X5M. For some time I've successfully used Bimmercode to do quite a lot of coding to previous BMWs and the first thing to change was adding stop start to memory.

No such luck with this car it reactivates every ignition cycle even after disabling stop start in Bimmercode when stop start memory failed.

I see the starting mode is efficiency which I assume is the cause of the problem. Has anyone changed the starting mode to comfort or sport ?
If so does this then allow stop start deactivation without having to turn it off every ignition cycle or using M1 or M2 buttons?

Thanks in advance

Unless this is a change for ‘23, the M should not default to auto start/stop on and should instead remain in the same on/off state when it was last on. That’s how it works for the rest of us. Unless I missed it (definitely possible), I don’t believe anyone else reported this as a change for ‘23. Curious to hear what others say.

MY 23 X5MC stop/start is always off no matter jhow many times i turn the car on or off. It always remains in the off position. There's a button on the console for it. I have it off 24/7.

I code my M50i to always start in sport individual.

Thanks for the replies. To clarify the car starts in "efficiency" mode as the default setting. If I change that in settings it reverts to efficiency at the next ignition cycle. There is not even a comfort option in this menu, it's only the M1 and M2 menus that are comprehensive.

Maybe something to do with the new firmware or could be regional but I've not seen this problem before in other BMWs and this is a 21 build

I've done the same as MDallas in previous vehicles but unless I'm missing something here there's no other option apart from M1 and M2.
but will try coding to sport as default start up. In previous BMWs efficiency always brought back stop start activation so maybe this might be the problem

If memory could be retained for M1 or M2 instead of starting in efficiency this would be good but I suspect this default efficientcy setting is used to fudge the fuel consumption and emissions numbers

Yep, I use the M1 button to set my daily driving presets and press it before I press start. Keeps it simple.

Same here now, a bit disappointing though that you can't do with an M car what you can with the regular BMWs. Having just come out of a new M240i Bimmercode coding was so affective in it, but finding things quite restrictive in the X5M. Even when the code is accepted and errors cleared it makes no change.

Strange. I tuned off start/stop on day 1 on my MY22 car and it has remained off.

Are you in Europe? Maybe different regulations there?

No, in Australia but the cars are a part Euro spec with some of those nasty aspects (like OPF) not on the cars so they a hybrids of sorts.

There is no requirement at all for stop start at all here and I suspect it's only included to fudge the emission figures on Euro spec or semi spec performance cars

On previous BMWs I've used Bimmercode to add memory to stop start and it's always been successful. I also tried coding startup mode to sport rather than efficiency but that wouldn't bind either

In the end I contacted Stefan at Bimmercode who tells me that many aspects on M cars are not codeable. Where M1 and M2 are included the startup or stop start coding will not work unlike the G05 M50i

I'm currently looking into having it done with ESYS by a highly experienced Tech I know here so I'll report back if that works.

Hi Dave because here in Australia we get the Euro specked cars the on/off will reset every time, I have tried multiple codes, spoken to dealers and aftermarket sellers and there is no way to have it permanently off.

It drove me crazy for ages but now it just becomes part of my starting the car routine where i turn it off.

Just received my X5 M50 and I also tried BimmerCode for the start/stop and it didn’t stick.
Also my menu on BimmerCode is limited. Not many options. It’s a 2023.
Any thoughts?

Do you have iDrive 8 in yours? If so according to Bimmercode tech support there's not many options for iD8.
I'm currently waiting for a guy I know who's an ESYS coding specialist and will ask the question and come back with his answer

How did you do this? Is yours a 2023? My Bimmercode doesn't offer this option...

BimmerCode provide VERY little by way of DME coding options and there's no expert mode for DME. You should maybe look into BimmerUtility. There are multiple options for ASS functions (MSA). You can even create your own cheat codes.
